A lot of stuff is happening in the background, inside and between hospitals. You just dont hear about on stuff or nzhersld or facebook because people doing it have better things to do than post on social media.

And boarder, Government sittings...

Swear I've suggested that is likely occurring a few times too :)

You are suggesting that there is no correlation between human and animal density and disease?  Thats plain wrong.

Read what I wrote again please - and then realise that you've created a straw-man - and used it to tell me I'm wrong.

I said nothing of the sort.

They also are banning people entering the country, except residents returning from overseas, who require 14 day self isolation. This is a big one. NZ is still currently allowing entry from most other countries including tourists, but they must all go into 14 day self isolation.  The 100 limit on gatherings is also more than in NZ, which I believe is 500.

I can't sight that. The Level 4 ban is to stop outward travel (as you may not get back)

I don't think it exists. It would be useful for people to post links please - facts are required not what someone thinks they read.

Without revealing sources, or being specific, there may be a reasonably major announcement soon.

The odds of there being a reasonably major announcement soon is pretty high - they've been coming at us like cannon-fire, I don't expect the barrage will be over for quite some time.

Whatever it will be, stay calm as we do 11 days ahead you. And as long as the compatriots only hoard toilet paper and pasta, there is no need to worry - it is refilled more or less every day. 😄

A dedicated community-based testing centre for COVID-19 is up and running in Christchurch.

  • We need to restrict outbound travel from NZ to prevent those that don't hold citizenship or long term offshore visa's from leaving. And make it clear those who do leave are not eligible for any mercy flights.
  • We need to decide what to do with travelers here in NZ at the moment. Short stay travelers should be drying up in the next couple of weeks, but for long stay travelers going home to Italy / France / UK / California / Philippines is seriously unattractive. We need to decide if we are going to allow them to change onto a Covid-19 visa and if that visa will entitle them to work and and receive funded healthcare etc. We owe it to these people to make our intentions clear. But this cannot be announced untill our boarders are closed to non-residents and non-nationals (other than the few expectations) or we will have a flood of tourists coming in to take advantage.

I can't recall where I had heard it, I think was on the radio, but maybe they amended the report, or it was something they were planning and haven't yet released. But the new restrictions they announced today https://www.bay939.com.au/news/local-news/115468-borders-closed-overseas-travel-banned banning outwards travel to Australians, is more restrictive too than NZs, we don't appear to have yet banned it.

I can see all the countries where there are restrictions at https://www.nytimes.com/article/coronavirus-travel-restrictions.html?auth=login-google

UK doesn't seem to have much in place yet, nor Ireland, even though Ireland have closed schools. Doesn't seem to be a unified approach, eg why ban schools running, when people can still fly in and not have to self isolate?

Maybe I can help a little bit. Government and Lufthansa are currently planning to gather at least Germans around the world as a last chance to get home. Maybe this would relief a little bit your concerns.

Fred99:

Poll published by LA Times:

The same poll found that about 56% of Americans considered the coronavirus outbreak a “real threat,” while 38% said it was “blown out of proportion.”

The 38% are the 'Trump Rump' who will vote for him in November come what may.
The won't change their minds until Fox News starts broadcasting pictures of mass graves or piles of bodies in the streets - and even then Fox will probably say this is occurring in 'Democrat States'.

Which leads on to an interesting (well, I think so 😉) train of thought:

Many dates in the American electoral timetable are fixed in the Constitution or by Federal legislation

  • Election Day has been set as 'the Tuesday following the first Monday in November' (3rd Nov this year) since 1845 by Federal Law
  • State electors meet in their respective state capitals the first Monday after the second Wednesday of December (14th Dec this year) to cast their votes - I think that's the same 1845 law
  • the Constitution mandates that the new Congress must be sworn in on 3rd Jan,
  • the Constitution mandates that the new president’s term must begin ("Inauguration Day") on 20th Jan.

So what do they do if it's all "bring out yer dead" in the USA next northern winter?
😖

You heard what you wanted to hear. Governments are being very careful and they aren't releasing their planning for this reason. Please don't post things like this without attributing them. This is exactly what starts panic buying and all sorts of crazy behaviour.
