There has been a lot of confusion from people over the terms 3rd jab and booster as they are not one and the same.. But they are one and the same. The difference comes down to medical terminology.

Tks for that, appreciated. Why is the booster for 18+ and not 12+?

Probably because the risk for a double jabbed child is already extremely low, even after several months.  Plus, 12-17 year olds in NZ have only recently been vaccinated so any boosters would be well down the track, by which time there will possibly be other/better options?

Not to mention the myocartitis risk which some are still taking very seriously (see Taiwan post above).

JPNZ:

From todays breifing:

"There are 222 new community cases today. Of these, 197 are in Auckland, Waikato (20), Northland (1), Wairarapa (2), Lakes (2).

The Ministry of Health has reported a Covid-19-related death of a patient at Auckland City Hospital. The patient, who was in their late-70s, was admitted to hospital on November 11, and subsequently tested positive.   There were 21,442 first and second vaccine doses administered yesterday, made up of 7,764 first doses and 13,678 second doses. To date, 90% of New Zealanders have had their first dose and 81% are fully vaccinated."

Days to 90% DD continue to drag out... CMDHB is now December 10th...

The 4 laggards are all in 2022, Tairāwhiti 06 Jan,  West Coast 06 Jan,  Whanganui 07 Jan and Northland 12 Jan

Pretty easy to see why the govt is going to abandon the 90% requirement for Traffic lights....

Vaccinations:

4,645 first vaccine first doses delivered on sunday (up from 3,283 the prior sunday). Could be due to the Mandates that kick in Tuesday, suggestions of the protection framework kicking in before targets are met, or driven by news of regional spread of the virus. Regardless, more doses is good news.

And Mondays number is 7,764 first doses, vs 5,207 the prior Monday.

Still don't know if this is due to the mandates, or the virus spreading around the north island, but this is an impressive uptick.

tdgeek: Then... a number of replies who are anti vax including one who is not anti-vax but supplies all the anti vax arguments. Looks like they are everywhere.

They are not everywhere. They do tend to be very vocal.

Health Commissioner raises urgent concerns about clinical care during Covid home isolation after recent deaths in this context:

Stuff: The number of people isolating at home while infectious has ballooned in recent weeks, with a string of those affected sounding the alarm over delays in contact and the levels of engagement and oxygen monitoring equipment provided. Over the last 10 days health authorities have reported the deaths of three people isolating at home with the virus.

"I am concerned about increasing media reports of people with Covid-19 who may not be receiving the clinical care they need while self-isolating," Commissioner Morag McDowell told The Spinoff. "Last week I wrote to the Ministry of Health to bring urgent attention to this matter and I await their response."

I disagree. I know a few, I see a few on the news, and on Neighbourly where I just browsed to read an pro vaxxer thread, there are a number there. While I don't actively participate there, I recognise a number of names from regulars. They aren't the 5G type, but they are vehement about the risks of the vaccine, poor protection of the vaccine, my body, and so on. The key is, its just another random place of normal people that all of a sudden are quite well populated with vigourous anti vaxxers. Factor in that we have teachers, nurses etc of this ilk, I'd wager that if you ran surveys, you would find a steady stream of them. Here in Chch where vaccines have been going for an age, we seem to be about 94% single dose. Not surprised if the anti vaxxer element is pushing 5% of all of us

Zero sympathy for the self-righteous teachers and medical personnel who refused to be jabbed and are now facing job losses, even though Stuff.co.nz is doing their best to push their sob stories.

Well we had a news item about someone who talked of loving and serving their community.
Who is not anti-vaccine, not taking the vaccine as they are pro choice.

So do you love your community, but choose for no particular reason other than choice.
Avoid a vaccination that can protect others you work around, and your community.

You can continue to serve your community as you state you almost selflessly do.
By being selfless and getting vaccinated.

Its not even a case of making your choice and isolating yourself away.
You want to work in places where you endanger people.

Is that the sense of community they talk of.

You mean they took 8 days after the announcement to run the procurement process and sign a contract? What a scandal.

The point is they [vaccine certificates] have only been front of mind for a very short period of time.  Just a real lack of planning.

The scandal was that they should have known it was going to be required months ago and put the wheels in motion back then so it was ready to go on the date required.

That is what National have been saying too, not that National would have  probably done any better..We are also seeing the same thing with hospital and ICU capacity, with a front page story on stuff about the lack of ICU beds in some areas. I mean we have known about this for 18 months, it is hardly new.

Then criticise that not the date the contract was signed.
