GV27:

Zero sympathy for the self-righteous teachers and medical personnel who refused to be jabbed and are now facing job losses, even though Stuff.co.nz is doing their best to push their sob stories.

Are they going to to get redundancy? I suspect they should because their job requirements have changed which they no longer meet. If so, I wonder how many are using vaccines as an excuse to quit their jobs but still get a healthy redundancy.

Nope. They are not being made redundant, they are not meeting the legal requirements to be employed. Redundancy is not payable.

Watching the news tonight, wondering if test results will take longer to get back as cases increase. There was someone on there where it took 5 days.

Also looks like leaving Auckland will be spot checks for test results or vaccinated, unless get a big penalty for trying to get through and caught, looks like a token effort to stop unvaccinated etc from leaving.

Roads into less vaccinated areas will be more through checks.

Guessing areas outside Auckland now have priority?. We know it is spreading uncontrollably inside Auckland, so maybe many of the tests are less relevant.

We know how well that works. It' s like only putting a  sample of people into MIQ rather than everyone,  Covid will get through.

Its all baked into the cake now. The absolute best thing is for folks to get vaccinated as quickly. Failure to do so will cause further carnage in terms of infections and pressure on our health system.
No policy whether its Yellow, Green, Red or Blue is going to change that.

100%  The goal was to open up after vaccinations but non compliance has ended that. The graphs that get posted here from time to time show that the vaccinated are massively safer. The traffic light system is basically to reward the vaccinated, and businesses with it, and keep the other lot at arms length

Mmmm, cake...

I saw a few more sob stories from teachers who had to leave their jobs yesterday as well as a lengthy FB post from someone on a community group looking for sympathy for people who are now out of work.

Edit: a blood condition means she can't get the vaccine? News to me:

@tdgeek, you're right, sorry...that wasn't the best wording, I've changed it.

Forced? More like volunteered to prefer conspiracy over health and safety for the kids and the kids families. Wait till the vaccine pass kicks in, in Summer. Forced not to go to the beer garden too I guess

It's been a common belief by the anti vaxxer brigade that mRNA vaccines cause blood clots because some Canadian anti vaxxer Doctor said that they did a few months ago.

The reality of that blood clotting issues with mRNA has been incredibly rare, unlike the well known issues with AZ.

Edit: Found a link fact checking the original story which I'd read months ago https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-mrna-clots-idUSL1N2PY1K2

You mean they took 8 days after the announcement to run the procurement process and sign a contract? What a scandal.

The point is they [vaccine certificates] have only been front of mind for a very short period of time.  Just a real lack of planning.

Then criticise that not the date the contract was signed.

That's exactly what was being criticised - the fact this was left so late.

The fact that this whole platform has been able to be built so quickly is amazing, but the real issue is the fact is we were being told as late as September that there would be no vaccine certificates and no restrictions and the govt were then forced to backtrack on that.

The alert level system as it stands right now is not fit for purpose. We should be in the traffic light system now but can't be because we didn't believe vaccine certificates were needed and need this for the system to work.

This reminds me of my relative I was referring to a few pages back - didn't want Pfizer due to a family history of heart problems, mRNA, "doing my research", blah blah blah...maybe she'll get the non-mRNA Astra Zenaca one and just be done with it.

From Stuff

"People who choose to leave a job rather than be vaccinated may be able to qualify for a benefit straight away, the Ministry of Social Development says."

I'll refrain from expressing my opinion of that.

Sounds like consensus is converging on December 15th for actual travel out of Auckland.

I don't think many people would have been impressed had mid-December been floated as the date two weeks ago, given that's when we first started hearing about the 29th of November as a key date. Now, it turn out there's possibly yet another two week waiting period on the cards, on top of the two weeks before we get to the 29th. So another full month, or two weeks into Summer, despite assurances we'd be able to travel around during it.

The drip-feeding and constantly pushing out time-frames is starting to really get depressing, given other regions have moved straight out of L3 Step 2 into Level 2 and we don't know if we'll hit Step 3 before the traffic light system is bought in.

I'll help you.

So that those vaccinated can pick up their workload and get taxed to pay for the wages of those who now won't have to vaccinate and won't have to work. Win win right.
