GV27: ….

I don't see why people who leave jobs who also have dependents should be treated differently when it comes to a stand-down/cooling-off period.

They should at the very least be treated the same, even if it is admittedly poorly. But in no way should vaccine-hesitant people get priority treatment.

I fully understand and appreciate where you are coming from (my personal opinion is very much aligned to yours). I suspect that it is a precautionary measure to avoid any legal challenges etc.

Additionally I suspect that employability of these vaccine resistant folks will be an issue for other in-person roles so suspect that further rules on job seeking may be relaxed.

The last thing that ministries or government wants is images of children going hungry or stays/injections being issued on vaccine mandate restrictions. I’m not a lawyer so take the validity of the previous statement with a grain of salt.

That's actually working pretty well.

Heh, the fact I haven't been able to get on all day because of 'too many requests' indicates otherwise :)

SJB:

Maybe this is an indication of our future.

Covid-19: Pubs curfew and working at home return in Ireland - BBC News

90% vaccination rate for 12+ as well.

This is the real issue for me, and it seems nobody wants to talk about it. I have no doubt this will be our future you only need to look overseas to see most highly vaccinated countries are locking down again months after opening up.

I personally think we'll have parts of NZ locked down through early to mid 2022 and ongoing issues with hospital capacity for a long while yet. Let everyone out to enjoy some Christmas cheer but at what long term cost?

Absolutely. In the rush to promote vaccination, it has been portrayed as the solution to the pandemic. The likes of vaccination unlocking massive summer music festivals was used in one of the marketing campaigns.

But the reality is that Auckland Metro DHB's are at 93% first dose, 86% fully vaccinated, and Auckland is locked down at Level 3, step 2. But despite this, we aren't seeing a dramatic reduction in case numbers in Auckland.

Clearly vaccination is helpful, but isn't looking like the end game at the moment.

I expect NZ will be seeing 6 - 12 months of Red or Orange levels under the protection frame work.

But hopefully we see some kind of break through that means we can have herd immunity without (non-vaccination) restrictions.

We do have a bunch of desirable stuff on the horizon:

  • Oral covid-19 treatment drugs.
  • Vaccines for more age groups
  • Vaccine pass roll out (will see further boost in vaccination rates)
  • Other (perhaps better at slowing transmission) vaccines: Novavax, Pfizer delta specific formulation
  • Mild weather in summer (unlike the northern hemisphere that is going into winter)

FineWine:

Then the article says: She went on to say even if she didn't have the blood condition she wouldn't get the vaccine because she thinks mandates are a "human rights" issue.

Again, another member of the selfish society and if that is her stance and interpretation of Human Rights, then she should not be teaching.

She's an anti-vaxxer. People who say "I am not but" usually are.

I'd think the dramatic reduction in cases will happen a month after 90% fully vaccinated is reached - before that there are still those who are not following restrictions, there are those anti-vaxxers and so on.

As you mentioned, the vaccine might need help from other remedies to be completely effective.

15th of December for the border re-opening. Great that it's happening, but a bit of a bitter pill given the hype around November 29th and now for it to be a further month is a bit gutting.

They are pretty consistent about announcing announcements about announcements.

Borders opening on that date are not guaranteed.

Yes, picking up on the sense it's a very best case scenario - if numbers explode in Auckland under the traffic system and they scrap the travel then I'd suspect there'd be riots.

Speaking of, does anyone know if we will still go L3 Step 3 before the traffic light system?

Batman: I thought they promised Auckland will get to travel for Christmas?

The 15th Dec is 10 days before Christmas.

Proof of jab. or test. You can transit border. Or be fined.

feels like a slap in the face to allow unvaxxed by choice to enjoy summer and travel around NZ :(

I'm glad there're more details and "certainty" now.
