Is it really as high as 10% of the population doesn't want to/won't/refuses to get vaccinated (or are antivaxx)? 500,000 ignorant, idiotic people? That number seems a little high to me.

Batman: So australia cases were going up and up, and as soon as they open up they all go down. How is that possible

Thats not what he said. Testing rate drops has nothing to do with NZ. Are testing rates stable in NSW and VIC, and cases are coming down? Or are tests low so cases reported are low?

Ok, so I looked up tests, and in both states they are roughly consistent, so tests are stable, cases are trending down, etc. As NSW is highly vaccinated and Victoria a little less so, that means that the vaccines are reducing hospitalisation and ICU. Case numbers are still very high, so assume they are due to the unfettered spread by the vaccinated and unvaccinated people. And that most of the hospital and ICU cases are the epidemic of the unvaccinated. Also, added immunity from the massive numbers of past cases that they let rip when opening up with low vaccination rates, and subsequent deaths. But hey, they got freedom, as did the virus. Seems more a case of letting Covid rip through the people, then saying now hey what a good job we did??

As always, the true experts are the ones that support anyone's given narrative

Re ChCh, house of 6, seems they stayed at home all the time except for a 30 minute shop at Countdown Eastgate. The other 5 in the house probably wouldn't have caught it AND been able to spread it on the Sunday, perhaps too early, medically,  for that to manifest itself?

What did they use until now to treat diseases? Witchcraft? Thoughts and prayers?

I've noted that the empty platitude of " thoughts and prayers " has become increasingly common in one of the least religious places I've ever come across!

The unVaxx can move around the country during the summer, but most of the country will be the Red level so they will have a limited options of things to do inside.

The PM stated if an area is not at (or very near 90%) Vax the region is starting at the Red level.

The biggest fly in this ointment is the government turning business owners into policemen. If business becomes less than diligent about checking (and it's hardly far-fetched to think some might) then the whole traffic light thing just falls apart.

Well, it's often used by officials from the police or government departments trying to sound caring.

I'm pretty sure that the "thoughts and prayers" of a monolithic government organisation would be of exactly zero interest to me if they were discussing, say, the death of my wife in a press release. Indeed I'd probably be vaguely insulted by their vacuous attempt to insert themselves into my grieving.

that's already the case with alcohol sale: cafes, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, sport event, concerts, community events, supermarkets, liquor stores, R18 shops, etc.

I don't see that as a problem. I believe business owners in the vast majority are willing to comply and operate - no one wants another lockdown.

@kobiak but those places would not be manually verifying the age of every single patron. Just the ones that "look" underage.

Very hard to tell with your eyeball who is and isn't vaccinated. So everyone coming through the door will need to be "handled".

That is a lot more overhead.

Agree. From day one its been a trust model. To comply and so on. I suspect that while the vast majority will comply going to premises and managing the premises, when there is a problem, it will be front page news, and it will "appear" as a major issue
