If someone has the flu, shouldn't they be self isolating anyway normally? I think that is also currently the advice, that anyone sick should be at home. We also don't want to be spreading colds and flu at a time like this, as that just adds to the problem IMO.

People who have the flu still need to eat and have medical supplies. If they don't have family or friends to help, they may have to do a quick trip to the shops to keep supplies going.

In anticipation of having to self isolate, lots of people are registering with supermarkets etc to have their supplies delivered. Countdown is apparently experiencing heavy demand for this and it pays to order at least 2 or 3 days ahead of when you want your groceries delivered.

New World has sent an email to customers, part of which reads as follows:

"We remind you to please shop as you normally would. Our online shopping services are under increasing demand and we are doing everything we can to meet your grocery needs. Whilst in store you may see some limits on lines of products - this is to ensure that there is enough for everyone.

We're grateful for your cooperation and will keep you informed if the situation changes. We recognise that these are unsettling times, and we want you to know that the safety of our customers and staff are our priority.

As you can appreciate we are currently receiving unprecedented high volumes of calls and emails from our customers so we ask that you please refrain from contacting us unless it's urgent - thanks for your patience and understanding."

Ouch, please refrain from contacting us, I never expected to see this from New World! So, this all goes to show that a gradual build-up of groceries is a good idea because if you follow what's going on overseas, even many of the basics are now hard to buy.

Now that our infected count has jumped to 20, people I know are starting to increasingly be more cautious and not going to a lot of places and activities that they are used to doing. Watch what's happening in England, for example, for a guide of what's likely to happen here.

Anyone been able to get in touch with Healthline regarding self isolation? Can’t get through on the phones at all. All the information online is about travelling outside NZ but nothing about potential exposure in higher risk workplaces etc (my case).

I’ve been unwell for a week and a half. Went to the doctor who barely looked at me and sent me out the door with some penicillin capsules. Only asked if I travelled in the last 14 days, I said no but I do work at the Airport handling baggage and aircraft cleaning but just dismissed it.

I’m rarely sick and only for a short period of time if I ever am which given the circumstances especially due to my work I do feel moderate risk.

I don’t know if I should be self isolating or not. Who makes that informed call?

Healthline. Once they answer and evaluate. They then arrange a visit to testing capable GP if feel the need.

Remembering of course surface/contact exposure lifecycle is believed to be low (and if I recall temperature fluctuations ala baggage hold may help that)

Of course everyone who doesn't have such circumstances and super concerned is unfortunately ringing them instead of awaiting a call from

I would recommend you self isolate and keep on trying Healthline.

Hopefully it's okay but better to be safe for everyone around you. Hope you have been off work 😊

you need be isolating and to get tested asap. call your doctor and it will be arranged. testing advise has changed as of today. used to be based on travel history, but no longer.

Please keep onto this. Your assessment as moderate risk seems reasonable. Apparently access to testing has been made a lot easier in the last day.

If you can't get to healthline, I would phone you GP again, possibly try another practice to get a second opinion.

Are you hitting many of the green boxes on the below table?

This isn't good:

This was a NZer who flew from Auckland.
10-20 working days for a test result?

BTW Penicillin does not really affect viruses.

Nobody takes this serious... especially here in Sweden where i am currently... there are over 1100 cases with 8 deaths. They did not close the schools or borders and they have not take any measurements. They think it will pass by itself...

I feel the same. We are importing new future cases with every flight coming in.

Ikea (from Sweden) closed all their warehouses yesterday in Germany ... they should know better.

Problem there is that if this tests positive, then we (NZ) exported a case that was probably local transmission acquired - but we have to wait 10-20 days to find out.  I have no idea why the Samoan authorities would send the sample to Australia for testing if it takes 10-20 working days for a result - it's extremely important for Samoa but also NZ to find out - they should have sent the sample here.

from the govt of samoa:

"This is a suspected case only.

Samples have been sent to Australia for COVID-19 testing and results should be available in 10-20 working days."

(from above link)

Yes I edited it to correct it, but you quoted my post before I had finished editing it. Yes it is suspected. I do wonder if the media should be making this sort news 'breaking news' and sending out alerts, when it is only suspected rather than confirmed.

Swedes are pussies, they can't stand up to someone or something, they've even stopped testing people who have symptoms. I feel so sorry for them but I am angry because i have a pregnant wife with asthma.....crazy!
