Got my online delivery today, and more than half the items weren't delivered due to no stock. Also one thing they said they provided wasn't in the box, which has been quite common, so have to contact them for a refund.  I have found online shopping to not be all that great from my experience, and you also end up getting fruit and veges that maybe past it, because you don't get to pick them out yourself. Wouldn't want to risk ordering avocados online as  bananas have been a bit of a failure. Would make banana cake from them, but no flour.  Mine is quite a small P.E. supermarket,  which maybe a factor, but in normal times their stock levels are very good. Although I do understand the staff are trying their best in difficult situations.

Experienced the same problem. They don't have a central DC so while the stock shows up as being available online, it's not in the store.

This will go a long way to remeidate that once they roll it out to more cities.

I arrived at New World Thorndon just after 8am this morning, which is exactly the same time I've been there every week since the lockdown began.

Until this time there had always been a queue that took half an hour to get through, but today I walked straight in and the number of customers was far fewer.

Best of all, they even had hand sanitiser in stock! It seems to be different brands from what they usually stock so I get the impression that they have made a significant effort to source it from wherever they can.

My weekly shop @ NW Wigram this morning was noticeably different from the recent weeks.

It appears that now, since Countdown opens before them, that they no longer are getting the "normally shop @ Countdown" shoppers.

(Who empty the stock for the regulars) Consequently the queue was much shorter.

About 10 of us queued on opening.

Idiots prevalent who couldn't see (Or chose to ignore!) the great big read arrow markings on the aisle floor to show one way traffic!

1 in 3 ignoring it!

Stock was plentiful. Even flour. Bread had a 3 loaf limit. Cans etc still had a limit.

Handy towels were noticeably absent (Space swallowed up by the abundance of toilet paper!), only the most expensive option available for weeks now.

No queue waiting when I left.

Definitely not as bad as other weeks.

Not going out next Saturday, as it is ANZAC Day.

Will see what it is like in a fortnight - and whatever lock down level we are at!

My food bag are accepting new sign ups now.

We have had a great experience with them during the lockdown, and would recommend them.

If you are looking at signing up - use my code and we both get $50 off the next order: https://www.myfoodbag.co.nz/refer?raf=krystalt003&name=Krystal

We have been getting the family pack and last week added the fruit box. With this, and a big order from bidfood we haven't had to visit the supermarket once.

Did my first supermarket shop yesterday (Khandallah New World).

No lines and at the door a person gave me a trolley after wiping down the handle and then sprayed my hand with antispectic wash. I am not sure how useful that is since I would be touching stuff in the store and possibility recontaminating myself.  I wore a mask but most shoppers were not and they were not really observing the 2m rules which is pretty hard anyway.

At the checkout I noticed the self checkouts were available. Of course you have to press the screen on self checkout to either choose an item that's not barcoded (like vegetables), choose a number to purchase or choose payment methodology. So contactless payments are not that much help. I did work out that if I pressed the buttons through the thin plastic bags they provide for vegetables, that works fine. I still paid contactless.

To the car, once I unloaded the trolley into my own bag in the car, I returned the trolley to the NW guy and then in the car washed my hands with sanitiser.

Back home left the food out for a bit before wiping each item with wipes before storing them away.

You must be one of the lucky ones. My boxes have been late, defrosted, fish rotten, fruit rotten, vegetables going bad when they arrive.... Still had to pay full whack twice. Cancelled and get asked why. They obviously don't read notes.

as for click and collect type shopping or delivery from the supermarket, haven't had a chance - assume all the people who hoarded the toilet paper get in first 😂

I usually do my grocery shop about 7pm when it's empty at my local - just have to remember to bring multiple bank cards and some cash for when a bank goes awol like ASB did last night

Really? That sounds pretty rough. A while ago we had a couple of minor things - mouldy garlic, and chicken with a 1 day best before date, but when we complained they were pretty good at remedying.

Has this just happened during that lockdown?

Yeah, the produce problem has only been during lockdown. The fruit I had previously was good, as were all of the vegetables. I had problems with the fish before though but I hear that is quite common. Unfortunately the choice of meals I have (fresh start) do not do a non-fish option. I always look forward to prawns or salmon when it is in the menu, but the fish itself is quite often off. I mentioned it once and they gave me $5 credit. Now I tend to just put some other meat with it if I can't get fish locally.. Just a hassle when you think dinner is sorted and you find that.

I realise it is lockdown and all the rest of it but I really would have much preferred them telling me my box would not be available because of spoilt items and refunding my card instead

Yep - one of the luck ones. But 6 months in and never had issues like you're describing - though the family box is a bit more basic. Maybe our courier run is just shorter.

For the first time since late March, there was flour at the supermarket when I went today. Not only flour, but lots of flour, and baking powder, and baking soda! No yeast but not sure if that is stocked in the same location.

The same pack of flour I got from a dairy for $6 was $2.10! Huzzah!

Maybe..... finally....

Everyone is sick of home baking?

Even the garage is full of baking ingredients and there is no  where else to put them? (And loo paper)

They finally got a power bill, and realised how much all the baking added to it?

Second time in five weeks "outside the wire" this afternoon.

Saw a woman get out of her car, mask on, cell phone in hand. Used phone, put it in her pocket, put disposable gloves on. Swept hair out of face with gloved hand. Saw her later on in the store, gloves on, phone in hand being used. Phone away, sweep hair from face.

She was leaving as I was. Returned her trolley, carefully took gloves off and put in bin, then pulled her phone from her pocket and didn't look up from it as she walked across the carpark to her car.

*facepalm* They walk among us.

I sent to NW Wigram yesterday, about 1pm. Big line, I assumed that was over.

Bugger! I would have thought the same!

Wife has run out of wholemeal flour. Pak'nSave and Countdown Northlands don't have any. She rang a few other supermarkets, but the ones she tried didn't have any. They all seem to have white, but not wholemeal.

Anyone know of a source in Chch?
