We sometimes have to work in places where Covid vaccination has been made mandatory. No use sending someone to do a job that will get refused entry.

There are also some customers making noises about only wanting fully vaccinated contractors on site.

The company that I work for have a lot of on site interaction with schools.
Myself and at least a couple of colleagues have been asked for proof of double vax, and proof of a negative swab in the last 7 days.

No major, just a minor inconvenience.
Last swab was a bit rougher than most. Felt as if they were aiming for the lobotomy...

You should see if your company can sign up for saliva testing.

Got my final jab on Friday gone. It was the 6 week mark of the first vaccine and I didn’t feel the need to rebook to an earlier date which put me into the bracket of the last 15% or so of people with one jab only.

After the first jab I was finding it difficult to switch my eyes between two screens on my desk and felt pretty lacklustre for most of the weekend following. Second jab was nothing: mildly sore arm, Saturday fine but a very slight headache today (Sunday). Mint as.

I believe our North Island branches are starting saliva testing or looking at it.

I haven't been asked for negative test yet.

Further to my other post, my timid hairdresser just phoned to say she took my advice and walked into a chemist with her daughter and got her first jab. She sounded relieved to have done it, but said the daughter has a swollen face and palpitations since she got it. I told her to go straight to her doctor now.

It shows that some nervous and less educated people may need clearer explanations and simpler instructions. Surely someone could create a warm fuzzy advert on ways other than calling for a booking to go about getting a vaccination. In her case, she was nervous to call.

Who watched the advert about the elderly man whose wife dies and so he goes to the local pound to find a companion dog and chooses a three legged one to match his one leg and they walk off into the sunset. My eyes brimmed. Government needs this Ad agency.

We need vaccine adverts that are more human and lighthearted to attract people rather than bore them witless with the dit, dit, dit noise and the yellow logo with a faceless voice. That hollow mechanical sounding voice on a screen does nothing to entice a person to action.

Not seen (or heard - its on the radio) the new 'two shots' campaign?

More money invested in another advertising attempt. This time trying to point out to the younger generation, they need to get their a into g if summer is to happen. No who, what, or phone how. Just a website at the end.

Television and radio is surely the wrong medium for targeting that demographic.

Who ever mentioned television?

Apparantly it has been seen by people online somewhere as people were talking about seeing it.

My 'seen' was presumptuous reply to someone saying there should be tv/radio - as it's on TV regularly :)

But yes, cross-platform online also it seems.

In terms of vaccine marketing, I think we need to ditch the "book" message from marketing, and change it to "drop in". And I think we need to get rid of any references to online.

People with easy access online, generally will be capable to typing "Vaccine center" into google and clicking the top link. - Putting prominence on the 0800 number would mean that even those with just a prepay phone (and no credit) can access the info.

I think there should be a bit more attention to the ability of the DHB's to address with accessibility. - i.e. more promotion of the free taxi & from the vaccination center in Auckland - and even the option to arrange in home vaccination for those that can't travel.

I don't think radio is too bad, and can be quite targeted in terms of it's demographic

Was listing to one of the Hip-Hop / R&B stations in the car a week or so back. Amount of promotion of the Covid-19 vaccine was epic. Both advert spots, and the segments run by the hosts - interviews with people who had been vaccinated and why etc. I felt it was pritty well done.

I think the audience of Hip-Hop / R&B stations is towards the younger end of the spectrum, and has disproportionate amount of Maori / pacific island listeners.

For those talking about paper vaccination certificates:

I requested mine 10pm October 26th, and received today (1/11) at 1:52pm via email. 6 calendar days.

Well under guidance time, but still long enough that that it would cause friction if we rolled out a paper based vaccine cert system. (given the delay it seems not to be automated, so I suspect the process wouldn't scale well to millions of requests). Also it's a paper letter (in pdf format) - Would be pretty simple to counterfeit if one wanted to.

I don't think we will see any vaccine proof requirements by the government (outside of employment) before the digital, verifiable system is up and running.

-------

With regards to today's announcement we seem to be gently moving to a "let it rip" approach (while trying to avoid hospital overload).

We had to go that way at some point, and now is objectively not bad timing. We have already brought enough time to get the country highly vaccinated, and to get us to summer where hospital loads are typically lower. Also we have new treatments & vaccinations for 5 -11 likely before the end of the year.

The biggest surprise to me was the move of Waikato to step 2 before Auckland. Auckland has checkpoints at it's borders and some of the best vaccination rates in the country. Waikato doesn't.

Both locations have outbreaks that are growing, relaxing restrictions in the Waikato is likely to result in further case growth, and increased odds of spreading across the north island excl north land (given the lack of enforced borders). - Means the government is not partially concerned about the virus moving to other area's.

Comments advising people not to expect the Auckland border to remain long term were also made. - adding further to my understanding of the move to the let it rip / living with the virus approach.

--------

In terms of the move to Alert level 2, Step 2 it will be interesting to see how this goes.

  • Malls: - Based on previous moves down to level 2, these will be absolutely nuts on weekend's - could be even busier now due to the proximity to Christmas. Some stores run capacity limits and have queues at the door, which further increases the number of people in the common indoor area. My local mall is Westfeild New market - could well have 3000+ people milling around indoors on weekends (no way of staying 2m from others) and we have already been involved in two locations of interest at that location.

    • The availability of con tactless food and drink, but closure of food court & restaurant seating will inevitable lead to people walking unmasked while eating their snack / lunch.
  • Museums - basically the same as above - being one of the few activities open for kids, it will get slammed, especially when it rains or weekends. - Local is the Auckland war memorial museum - also went in prior level 2 - I wouldn't be surprised if their were over 1000 people their at a time. - again way too many people to realistically stay distanced.
  • Consistency issues -

    • Can have thousands of people indoors in the mall / museum, but can't have outdoor dining by restaurants
    • Can have thousands of people indoors in the mall / museum, but not allowed to have a close family friend over for dinner (unless you have a suitable outdoor space)

Just heard of an interesting issue with a friend who hits not one but four separate "do not take the Pfizer vaccine if this applies to you" conditions, related to blood/heart problems and previous adverse vaccine reactions. She really would like to get vaccinated but apparently you can't get anything but Pfizer here.

This leads to a follow-on problem: Because every anti-vaxxer who can get away with it is manufacturing a fake medical reason why they can't get vaxxed, she's seen, in at least some cases, as an anti-vaxxer. It's a bit of a nasty catch-22 when true positives, people with legitimate medical reasons why they can't take the Pfizer vaccine, are overwhelmed by a larger number of anti-vaxxer false positives who are using it as an excuse.

Anti-vaxxers are evil. They fight for their imaginary "freedumbs" with disregard for the impact their actions have on everyone else. It is a cult.

There are supposedly less than 100 people in NZ that wouldn't be able to have 2 shots of Pfizer. This would be based on actual adverse reaction to 1st shot. https://covid.immune.org.nz/news-insights/who-cant-have-pfizerbiontech-covid-19-vaccine
