quickymart:
Could Omnicron maybe spell the end of coronavirus? It seems this strain is much less virulent than Delta and the other one, maybe eventually causing it to die out.
I am glad you phrased it as a question and not a stated fact.
All I am going to say is that if this isn't it, the beginning of the end, then maybe eventually we do get lucky with a future Greek letter before they run out. What we need to know is what happens when it infects people who are not seropositive....especially say some resthome somewhere with an unvaccinated population, that would seem to be the gold standard for drawing out Covids nasty streak.
Start there, and when there is no horror death toll, hopefully none for Nana and Pop (and especially the staff...crickey) we can say....well this is different in one aspect.
Then work our way through the epidemiology that we are not getting any feedback on from the low vaccinated, high seropositive, mainly younger groups testing positive in Gauteng right now.
It is kind of meaningless to say that symptoms are mild in a group that was exposed to a raging poorly tracked Delta wave hey.
But happy thoughts, so far so good, might as well show people the path.
At the end of the day, the way out of this thing is not going to be via six monthly injections forever and ever, because people will eventually not comply....take their chances.
The way out....is for the virus each year, to top up our immune system in the fashion of other Corona viruses, in the meantime suck it up folks and keep getting jabbed and stop asking mum and dad :"are were there yet?"
