MikeB4: Folks need to remember vaccinations are not about conspiracy, division, power, politics. Vaccinations are about aroha, aroha for, with and to ALL New Zealanders. He waka eke noa:

I wish more of the antivaxxers thought the same way as you did.

You have obviously not conversed with any of the anti vaxxers I have. Try your line on with them and see how far you get. It is bloody frightening and disheartening to see it ripping families apart. To them it is totally about all the things you mention and nothing absolutely nothing will change their minds. I am at my wits end with some family members.

Didn't miss much. Started OKish, soon followed with the usual 'I'm not, but...'

Sup:

I am wondering if your friend the one who had myocarditis, would now qualify for one of the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine.

I am fairly certain that this option is open to those who have had medical issues from Pfizer use.

Surely the Doctor can prescribe the alternate shot now.

Mixing and matching of course is fine.

Should note that the government decided not to require any qualification for the AstraZenica vaccine (beyond being 18+ years old, and not having a few rare medical conditions).

Anybody who wants one can simply book one via bookmyvaccine (only limited sites offer it). I understand that everybody gets sat down, for a discussion that goes something like: Both vaccines are considered safe and effective, and at the end of this discussion you are welcome to choose either, but pfizer is considered to be more effective and have a better safety profile, what are your thoughts?

I have and it does not change my view.

@Technofreak:

freitasm: Just banned an anti-vaxxer spouting bullshit and post removed.

Bugger, I missed all the fun and games. 😎

Someone that

a. Posted a link to a non-verified news source
b. Said "I am not anti-vaxxer I just don't like this vaccine, I am waiting for another one"
c. Said "Omicron is mild so I will just ride it out with [list of natural herbs capsules and teas]"

So yes, anti-vaxxer.

Some food for thought. If you cannot understand the thinking of an anti vaccination believer think of this. In a time where they feel so much has bee taken away from their control because of covid that saying no to the injection is a way of gaining just a little control in their life. The irony is by making that decision they are removing more control.

Remember stress and anxiety manifests in many ways and we are all in this.

Good food for thought.

Regardless, mods and I are together under the understanding that there's no space for "alternative facts" in this forum.

Which is good, Facebook could learn a thing or two from you! So much misinformation and bs on there, it's unbelievable.

I've reported the same misinformation post on there three times and what do they about it? Absolutely nothing. Obviously (to me) Mark is just happy now to sit on his laurels (and wealth) as he's created Facebook and doesn't need to manage it or do anything else with it. Sigh.

Are you saying that I am stating alternative facts? That is the opposite of what I am saying. My oldest son (psychologist) was relaying this thoughts to me in order to try and make sense of what is happening with out the anger. Similar to what was being said tonight on the John Campbell documentary on TV1.

For the record I am s very strong advocate of vaccines and a review of my posts here throughout the last two years would support that.

Oh, so someone who advocates alternative means of "research", who is a tad choosey on what put into their body but is quite happy to sell/use alternative remedies. Seems eminently reasonable to me for someone to want to post about all that type of stuff especially to a group of uneducated people like we have on this site.🤣

I wonder if said poster has a site they frequent where I might post my research and recommendations for dealing with Covid? I like to be able return the favour. Though sadly it's probably Facebook.

Read the room, please. I am saying the person who was banned earlier this evening was spreading crap so even if they are anxious anti-vaxxers, there's no space for them here.

That's all.

I am actually [pleasantly] surprised with the low presence of these people here.

I don't get the point of this story. While the rest of us did our civil duty and got vaccinated for society, these holdouts didn't because, well, they simply didn't want to?

It's a newsworthy story. I've been speaking to a friend recently who had one shot, myacardis to the point of presenting to ED twice, and is scared to have a second shot. He feels very much like a second class citizen and unfairly excluded. This article is definitely showing a point of view and i interesting for that fact.
The end of the day I feel sorry for my friend, but having not been present when he spoke to his doctor, not sure he had done everything he can do. Maybe he has. Maybe he is unnecessarily worried. Maybe we as a society have let him down.

I'm in favour of a vaccine mandate, but an concerned as a result people are slipping though the cracks.

I have heard of people with certain conditions having arranged with their doctor to have supervised injection at a local hospital.
Well one had a bit of twoing and froing from the small regional hospital as they were not in a main center, but eventually it was sorted.

I expect Doctor will indicate that Covid is going to be worse risk to someone with this propensity.
NZ Covid website estimates this as 4X greater for SARS-Cov2. Israel study says 18 times more risk with Covid.

Looks like the future will be either vaccination or infection, remaining uninfected may not be possible in very long term.
Outcomes are way better with 2 vaccinations than just one.

Maybe you can offer to watch over them, stay over at their house for a few days after as extra support ?
I have heard using the longer spacing might lower potential for any reactions, which is very low for a start, but might help.

If they have another talk to their Doctor.

Wishing them all the best and hope this all works out well.

Me too. I suspect that even without your moderation their point of view wouldn't get far. However we're better off without it though It'd probably be good sport to have a "discussion" with them.
