Yeah but in NSW they the stats are recording people "In Hospital with COVID" not "in Hospital because of COVID"

If you trip and break your hip and subsequently test positive on arrival at ED you get included in the numbers...

The ICU numbers are probably a better indicator, but even they will start to get flooded by cases if you have a 20/30% positivity rate in the community...

Hi, forgive me I can get a bit preachy with medical treatments I am a retired Nurse so it is not even an occupational hazzard anymore.

Whatever your misgivings are about MRNA, whether real or misinformed, you need to change the way you look at this situation.

Change your focus.

Focus on the disease. Not the cure. Just concentrate your efforts on understanding the disease from a reputable information source like our health here in New Zealand, a group we all trusted before all this nonsense came along.

One of the things about being an Ex Nurse is that there is always the temptation to overthink things medical, to 'do your own research' and to try to influence the treatments recommended to you based off other health care professionals advice.

So I get it. I get why people do their own investigations into all of this.

However, in a country like ours, since time in memorial, the institution that is New Zealand health care has been protecting and supporting its people.

I urge everyone to trust those voices ahead of our own decisions, because they exist to offer us un tainted solutions.

I see Victoria Ambulance services called a code Red for a few hours last night, a designation given to times where ambulance response time is excessively lengthened.

At some point the daily testing positivity rate in NSW will be a representative sample of the total population figure with some accuracy.

On today's rate that would be 2.8 million cases. perhaps then, Perhaps.

NZ will have to do things radically differently, or perhaps not, maybe we could also just post fake daily figures and go with that, it has worked for America the entire pandemic.

Both NSW and VIC has positivity rates ~30%... but its still increasing, so I don't think you can proxy it to the population until it shows some signs of stability,

But in terms of the NZ reaction, I think it will become totally driven by Health capacity.. Once hospitals start having to stack patients in tents I think we will see the govt go back to its lockdown playbook... I simply can't see them embracing the "let it rip" approach that is currently burning through Eastern Australia.....

We should be holding mass boosters events this week in as many locations as can be rented.....

OZ State booster data seems not very visible, but I think I saw total booster doses nationwide were about 2.6 million or 10% total pop, ours is pretty pathetic at around 300K doses or ~6% of total pop.....

in the UK Scotland went back into lockdown and England didnt and it was pretty much the same in both countries , Omicron running out of control. on a side note Scotland have had only 1 omicron case in ICU and they are around 15,000 cases a day and rising

Tried to book a booster jab online today and still seems to be insisting on 6 months.

4 month walk ins start today, with bookings to open on the 17th of Jan.

CDC latest advice is at least 5 months before getting a booster shot. Why are they rushing them here.

We are in a race.

At the moment, with this variant, the best protection for populations and individuals is to boost rappidly.

There will potentially be another shot....who knows when....there is no harm in boosting to get through the largest pandemic wave, mild or not..the world has ever seen.

Expect to see the gap narrowed to three months if this is deliverable in this country when omicron gets here.

I am pleased we narrowed the gap to four months, in some ways I wish we could narrow it to three.

Ahh ok the fertility claims have been thoroughly debunked, in fact Covid is a threat to fertility as it slows the motility of sperm.

Looks like you read the wrong thing from the wrong source, Just concentrate on the official health advice .

Not claiming anything, I've just made the decision to go the other direction.

Few papers like here, here and here suggests Astra is better. As for the other ones too many to source, and personal experiences with relatives and friends overseas having adverse effects with pfizer to make me not want it anywhere near me..

Omicron will likely get them long before Novavax arrives in NZ..... I don't even think there is a 5-11 formulation in trials??

Has anyone got trial numbers of pfizer on 5-11? Mine are 12 so yeah I think they'll be fine with the novavax.

What if Novavax is never approved (or made available) here? What then?

Also 17 cases today is a good trend to see, ie, downwards.
