I wonder if maybe they are being careful about the wording of that communication due to them having had problems with their staff being abused. Just a theory.

Nah. @cshwone suggestion "To protect our patrons we are implementing the Covid Pass in line with Government direction. We want to provide you with a safe environment so this was an easy decision to make" is clear, to the point and it doesn't make it sound like they are being coerced into doing it.

I have emailed them and am waiting to see what comes back, if anything.

They may also have long serving staff that have anti-vax positions,

I think that once you become a business using the pass, your staff also become required to be vaccinated...

NSW lost 29 people. Sixty four thousand infections. Hospitals are starting to pack out now with 2525 people in hospital amidst staff absence and people resigning.

Australia will recruit hard here in New Zealand, they know we make world class Nurses and they can offer more than a third better salary.

Victoria with 34 K cases and 18 deaths.

Omicron is not milder on populations like ours.

Here's an eye watering number - France 360,000+ cases in a day.

I heard the US is on track for 1,000,000 a day not too far away as well.
What are these people doing to get infected so much?? How is this not happening in New Zealand?? (note; I'm not complaining!)

Not getting vaxxed, not wearing masks, not social distancing and, probably worst of all, not taking the advice of experts.

The larger part of all of this is human behavior.

These incredible numbers are overlaid with societies that changed the settings from very restrictive, to less restrictive, at the most critical time, the world major festival season. Some obviously have poor vaccine uptake, but not all, look at Aussie.

From what we are seeing here, you could argue, that had we stayed in level four lock down, all this time, with the emergence of a 90% national vaccine wall, that Delta would have indeed been eradicated.

That is not an argument form me that we should have stayed locked down, on the contrary, I think what we have done was the perfect compromise, I think where our settings are at now, are a perfect balance between functioning socially and economically, while controlling the curve.

Indeed we are even slightly ahead of the curve.

And more importantly from my pov the ethics of our system, where people have been given ample protection and opportunity to protect themselves, is sound.

There is some hope that we could contain omicron (I barely believe this myself) when I say contain, I mean thousands of cases, but at such a rate, that hospitals remain fully functional.

Doing so would be incredibly difficult, however not all the omicron factors are bad. The shortened hospital stays, clearly help, they give us a new number to work with, in terms of case rates, and their relationship to hospital pressure.

Also the lower ICU demand is something you can work with, however this is a balancing act, because if you leave too many sick at home...they advance to ICU level of illness, when they could have headed that off by having those people in wards.

But the more I watch Australia, and as the picture worsens there, I am weirdly feeling more confident about what will happen here, because it was the not knowing that generated the majority of my own fears.

Omicron is not good at all, but it is not the worst case scenario that I could imagine...the astronomical volumes of cases are not causing exponential hospital rises...yes the hospital numbers are scary for us...but they are not totally out of control.

At least we know now that omicron could completely collapse our healthcare system, however we also know that we will stop that from happening in this country.

Another doctor that needs to be struck off, permanently.
After all with such nutcasery they would never have passed their qualifying exams in first place.

Kiwi anti-vaxx doctor recording vaccinated patients as 'magnetic' in clinical notes
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/459555/covid-19-doctor-recording-vaccinated-patients-as-magnetic-in-clinic-notes

What dangerous advice must this one be giving patients on a day to day basis on all manner of ailments.

Its doubtful these doctors would be any help, quite the opposite in omicron wave,
so best to clean house even though we are short handed.

As for the other one with $300 fine for a serious offence of falsifying vaccination exemptions, well who is going to take that seriously.

In Singapore give false information or abet those doing so, and you may see jail time.

The Speed of Omicron means predictions are usually out of date by the time they hit the headlines-

Remember 25K daily cases for NSW by the end of January?

When it comes it will be VERY fast... (Japan went from 1000 daily cases to 18,000 in 10 days)

All I have to say about Covid is to get vaccinated and boosted and continue to follow the hygiene rules as if you were infected yourself. This saves trouble, allows for the maximum possible individuality in a pandemic without any problems and protects the community from damage as far as possible. This stupid, unnecessary discussion about personal rights may be a favourite pastime for some, but it demonstrably puts human lives at risk. The majority of vaccination opponents are cured abruptly when they are admitted to hospital because of Covid, as Mrs Tinkerisk experiences anew every day as a doctor here in Germany. We cannot stop it, but EVERYONE can simply do their bit in these times without complaining, by not always thinking of themselves. Or in the words of Forrest Gump, "Stupid is as stupid does."

Yes that "doctor" (I use the term very loosely) in Murupara has been mentioned in here earlier. He should also be struck off, like the one in Canterbury giving the bs vaccine exemptions.

Also try to get your hands on some real masks...

The stuff coming out the US seems to indicate that the lovely reusable hippy fabric things are about a useful as a screen door on a submarine, (although better than nothing)

But in a Omicron Environment you really should be aiming for N95 (or equivalent) as a gold standard for busy internal spaces,

Blue medical is 2nd best....but fabric is well down
