It seems likely  there is both a Delta and an Omicron wave in NSW and probably VIC

If you look at QLD (pop 5m) or SA (1.7m) which had low (no) levels of Delta  so might be a better comparison

A lot of assumptions about how much Delta vs Omicron in NSW figures.  I have not seen any hard data of late.  The fact that over 90% of deaths reported yesterday were fully vaccinated may hint that Delts no longer so dominant in their hospital stats (since vaccines more protective against Delta)?

QLD Omicron outbreak is 2 weeks behind NSW so a bit early to reliably compare.

But as of today (reported 19 Jan), 835 hospitalised in QLD, which on a population basis would equate to 1,340 in NSW.   Not that different from the NSW figure two weeks ago (1,491 on 5 Jan).

Perhaps even closer if allow for NSW starting point being ~140 min in hospital ~6 weeks ago vs about 5 in QLD two weeks before that?

FWIW similar for SA - two weeks behind NSW

SA hospitalised (19 Jan) = 294.  Scales to ~1,360 for NSW population.  Again vs actual NSW two weeks ago = 1,491 on 5 Jan.

So, no, not looking any different in QLD & SA at this point?

I was thinking tonight, is there any way to charge these misinformation spreading morons (a la Liz Gunn, etc) with being a criminal nuisance or something? Her treatment of that reporter I would call borderline harassment - but what about silly buggers openly spreading misinformation online (Billy TK, etc)? Or is that up to Facebook etc (who seem quite useless at managing it, I guess that removes clicks for them) to take care of?

Guess all those protocols that we're supposed to have learnt from and put into place aren't as good as everyone hoped (akl airport with the sheer number of imported cases)

Always said it only takes one person to not take it seriously or apply the wrong 'shell be right'.

I doubt there will be dodged bullets this time

We seem to still be slow dealing with so called professionals.

Underground network of anti-vax doctors and nurses continues to issue dodgy Covid vaccine exemption letters

UK dropping mandatory face mask and covid passports.

Probably a political move to try to take the heat off Johnson. Still very high numbers of cases.

Systems that rely on people (who are always fallible) doing the right thing all the time will always eventually fail.

An ideal system should require multiple points of non-observance for there to be an actual failure event

How can a nurse give an exemption letter anyway? That's what I was asking earlier, can people like this be shut down in some way from doing this? A stiff fine is a start.

How are all these doctors and nurses still registered? Of course if you're looking for one of these so-called "exemption letters" you aren't going to care if they're registered or not.

They're relying on people not knowing the letters are full of BS, thereby allowing the wielder to bludgeon the poor customer facing staff into submission. As for why they're still registered, the process to discipline them is glacial and wasn't designed to react to propaganda campaigns on the side of a virus.

For sure. But did you see the flow process demonstrations that most airports are implimenting? Basically hand off these days. They come in, they are hands off everyone. New mask. Walk through corridors and areas, new mask, interact with customs like people

New mask, on bus. Off to hotel.

So if someone is still passing on there, there's a big ol lapse of a proximity breach or similar.
