I guess in America if you have a reputation for giving negative covid tests its profitable.

Center for COVID Control and its lab 'fraudulently reported negative test results,' Minnesota complaint says
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/01/19/center-covid-control-minnesota-lawsuit/6581452001/

""
The company and its lab "provide inaccurate and deceptive test result information to Minnesota consumers and have fraudulently reported negative test results to consumers that never completed COVID-19 tests," according to the complaint. Some test results listed "the wrong test type and false dates and times for when samples were collected from consumers," the complaint said.

I see Kelly Slater will be prohibited from going to Aus to compete because of his antivax stance.

Washed up in more ways than one.

Novavax Nuvaxovid approved in Aussie (primary doses only, not as abooster):

https://www.9news.com.au/national/australia-covid19-tga-approves-pfizer-oral-drug-to-treat-virus/4aa4ca60-bcc8-4f32-a660-a29e1d52e43b

Hopefully NZ is not that far behind. (but being able to be used as a booster would be desirable too)

However Novavax will likely come to late for our omicron wave, so we will need to rely on our current Pfizer and AstraZenica vaccines.

NSW has had it's first day with a decrease of the number of people in hospital covid-19 since the 18th of December. Obviously just a single data-point, but a positive sign that their wave may have peaked or be near it's peak.

Daily Press release & vaccination data page:

https://www.health.govt.nz/news-media/news-items/more-12000-doses-administered-5-11-year-olds-39-community-cases-21-hospital-1-icu

https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-data-and-statistics/covid-19-vaccine-data

Good news is that we are still trucking on with our vaccination roll out. Yesterday:

  • 12,057 first doses of the paediatric Pfizer vaccine administered yesterday to 5 to 11-year-olds
  • And for 12+: 1,236 first doses; 2,433 second doses; 525 third primary doses and 36,226 booster doses.

Bad news, is that it is looking increasingly that we are at the end of our luck with keeping out omicron from the community:

  • Palmerston North person who was released from MIQ on the 16th jan is positive (variant still to be confirmed).
  • A popular cafe in Auckland is a omicron related place of interest, linked to the Airport worker.
  • We now know for sure the infected MIQ worker (with many places of interest) was contagious, as they are linked to two other cases (one awaiting confirmation via genome sequencing)

So when her vaxxed up husband and son caught the virus, she decided it was her chance to get a health pass without rolling up her sleeve for a jab.

The 57-year-old quickly became infected and seemed to be on the road to recovery, her son Jan Rek told Czech public radio station iRozhlas.cz. Then on Sunday morning as she got up to go for a walk she was stricken with back pain. Ten minutes later she was dead after choking to death.

Incredibly tough seeing people throw their lives away when they are your mum or wife or whatever. That would be devastating.

A bunch of people are about to go through that here.

I feel for these families because they went and got vaccinated and tied to get their loved one vaccinated, until along came a spider.

Just keep swimming...

This is the problem with the whole "my body, my choice" argument. The virus couldn't give a flying toss about that train of thought/line of thinking. All the virus thinks is, "are you vaccinated or not? No? Then I'm going to go to town on you!"

From a thread in the Politics sub-forum (thanks @gzt):

gzt: Ron DeSantis opens five free monoclonal treatment centers with Regeneron obtained from the federal government:

Beast Editorial: Last month, DeSantis held a press conference outside Ocala Medical Center with a sign reading “Early Treatment Saves Lives” and touted monoclonal antibodies as the answer to the COVID crisis. His surgeon general, Joe Ladapo, described vaccines, masks, and testing as a “trifecta” of “lunacy.”

Apart from expensive, only problem is that it's almost useless against Omicron. Vaccination and masks are sensible and cheap prevention in comparison. Unless the medical staff are particularly unethical I think they won't be doing much at all in an Omicron outbreak.

Florida's governor wants people to get sick first and then get early treatment. How is this direction - which would stretch hospitals, staff, resources - better than prevention, only his feeble mind would be able to answer.

But that's the state of covid-19 in some of the most affected places. Covid-deniers and anti-vaxxers are a plague.
