Not sure what its like with Wellington public transport, but this makes no sense at all to control infection rate.

Public transport users furious at overcrowding as Auckland Transport defends decision to run reduced timetable despite Omicron outbreak

The issue is trying to get rostered staff back on from their leave with holidays still on.  Many of hte drivers have kids and can't just dump and run.. Whether I agree with my AT metro colleagues about their roster planning and demand forecasting is a business perspective that I won't share here.

Had an update email from Metlink this morning. Wellington is sticking to the standard timetable (which is in operation throughout the year apart from the immediate Xmas and new year break).

I find it very strange that Auckland has a "Summer" timetable.

Demand drops significantly over the Christmas break as people leave Auckland means running services costs a fortune and WK are not topping AT up at all despite the extended loss of revenue due to the lockdowns, but then that's not surprising given AT cannot even access the Covid recovery funds for staff wages.

I guess we must have shorter holidays at Xmas in Wellington then :)

Some cautious optimism from WHO Europe director Hans Kluge (wasn't he the baddy in Die Hard......no wait.. that was Gruber) that it could be the beginning of the end of the pandemic in Europe.

Fauci said this about the US two weeks ago, with the same guardedness

that's a bit on the nose

A woman said this about not being allowed into some buildings "We are living in a parallel world.”

No shit, Sherlock.

If you gave them a rebate for facilities they can't use. ( Though it is can't use by deliberate choice )
It would also be only fair to apply a general surcharge for the facilities upgraded for their use.
So a regional medical charge that would be very many times the rebate.

As they have not done their community duty to lower costs of covid on community.

Yet more self-proclaimed "geniuses" who think they know more about the vaccine than doctors and medical experts, find themselves on the wrong side of history (and the law, too):

Good to see they both got hefty fines handed down to them. Wonder if their new BFF Bishop Brian will dip into church funds to pay their fines for them?

CNN take on the AU covid situation.  Possibly similar headline treatment for NZ if as seems likely we track the same path as AU?

That's rich coming from the US. 3,000 deaths vs 600,000 deaths and counting.

https://thespinoff.co.nz/irl/25-01-2022/no-five-kids-didnt-collapse-at-a-vaccination-site-so-who-said-they-did

Unsurprisingly, washed-up former newsreader Liz Gunn appears to be the only source for the "5 kids collapsed at a North Shore vaccination site' bs that was peddled last week.

I just wish she would shut up. She's had her time in the spotlight, and she's not helping anyone with this antivaxx crap. I mean, really. She needs to move on and find a new (worthy) cause. Child abuse isn't one she should be involved with either: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/a-bad-day-for-the-forces-of-good/AJB56MDPWZP6LRWHSYU3P66UDU/
