So how does going to a cafe and buying no coffee, or no food to just have a freeloader catchup make it any different without covid?

You're looking into this too deep. If you're seated and buying, to consume while seated as you are expected to use such a facility for. Nothing changes.

But if you go for a pee, moving, or re order near people you aren't at a table with. Need to wear one. Simple as that.

If people suddenly decide to not go because it sounds scary "shrug*. That's on them for chosing not to Continue to help them out.

SJB:

I just can't see people in that environment masking up when seated. If they were forced to I believe most of them will simply stay away and the place would have to close.

Just drink your coffee really slowly.

My understanding is that the rules have changed from that (which I think is quite reasonable and is adhered to for the most part in my local cafe) to additionally needing to wear a mask if not actually drinking or eating while seated. So if you are just chatting to your wife between sips of coffee for example the mask needs to be on.

Am I wrong on that?

Everyone appears to take it a different way. And until the wording is out it's in the air. But from the PM questions. It covered going to the toilet and so on from your already seated and adhered position to moving about.

Another antivaxxer, no doubt. Seem to be a fair few of them in Rangiora (well, two that we know of).

So I guess we will see bowls of peanuts on cafe tables so people can eat them while waiting for their coffee and no masking required. A cheap and effective solution.

the rules are not to punish you they are there to keep people safe, wear a mask when you can and maybe stop someones grandparent from dying

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Yes I was just thinking that we've all come too accustomed to finding loopholes, revolting against the recommendations that focus is lost.

I expect these measures are a reinforcement while also indication tracing is going to be HARD. When the focus needs to be reminding people to think of the logic. Not questioning reasoning.

If you have mucus in your throat/nose laced with virus particles. What is the most effective measure(s) for keeping it to yourself. And not exposing another to them.

It's not that hard, and I'm sure common sense will win out.

While you are seated at your socially distanced table (ie., more than 1 metre from strangers), and you have a coffee, I don't think the government expects you (or the cafe owners to police you) to put your mask on between sips. They do expect that if you leave the table, you do so masked up.

May be a good idea to have your mask on until you have had your coffee and scone delivered to your table as well - the staff interact with a lot of people.

If that's too hard - stay home. A mask is not much to ask.

If you are sitting across from a covid positive person while having a coffee you are going to catch covid. Having a piece of material over your mouth while waiting for your coffee is not going to change the situation. If you don't want to kill grandma then don't go to a cafe during a pandemic.

I agree, but questioning the practicality of a regulation is not the same as looking for loopholes and if it's not seen as practical and effective people will ignore it.

I thought contact tracing was going to stop once we hit 1,000 cases per day?

If that's the case, either no one will bother following those rules or they'll just stay away. Not to mention you're meant to clean/wash your hands before and after you put your mask on/take it off. (Which wouldn't happen either)

Woah out of here with such logic :)

That's the approach I tried to apply to some revolting aussies. But naturally the numbers don't lie and they knew more than basic science...

They were revolting (ie, unhappy with rules) or they were revolting (ie, they looked terrible and had bad personalities)? 😆
