SJB:
I just can't see people in that environment masking up when seated. If they were forced to I believe most of them will simply stay away and the place would have to close.
Just drink your coffee really slowly.
Oblivian:
But if you go for a pee, moving, or re order near people you aren't at a table with. Need to wear one. Simple as that.
My understanding is that the rules have changed from that (which I think is quite reasonable and is adhered to for the most part in my local cafe) to additionally needing to wear a mask if not actually drinking or eating while seated. So if you are just chatting to your wife between sips of coffee for example the mask needs to be on.
Am I wrong on that?

James Bond:
Another antivaxxer, no doubt. Seem to be a fair few of them in Rangiora (well, two that we know of).
debo: So I guess we will see bowls of peanuts on cafe tables so people can eat them while waiting for their coffee and no masking required. A cheap and effective solution.
the rules are not to punish you they are there to keep people safe, wear a mask when you can and maybe stop someones grandparent from dying
Common sense is not as common as you think.
It's not that hard, and I'm sure common sense will win out.
While you are seated at your socially distanced table (ie., more than 1 metre from strangers), and you have a coffee, I don't think the government expects you (or the cafe owners to police you) to put your mask on between sips. They do expect that if you leave the table, you do so masked up.
May be a good idea to have your mask on until you have had your coffee and scone delivered to your table as well - the staff interact with a lot of people.
If that's too hard - stay home. A mask is not much to ask.

Oblivian: Yes I was just thinking that we've all come too accustomed to finding loopholes, revolting against the recommendations that focus is lost.
I agree, but questioning the practicality of a regulation is not the same as looking for loopholes and if it's not seen as practical and effective people will ignore it.
I thought contact tracing was going to stop once we hit 1,000 cases per day?

If that's the case, either no one will bother following those rules or they'll just stay away. Not to mention you're meant to clean/wash your hands before and after you put your mask on/take it off. (Which wouldn't happen either)

They were revolting (ie, unhappy with rules) or they were revolting (ie, they looked terrible and had bad personalities)? 😆
