the Rotorua vaccination centre was packed at 9.00 this morning, queues to get in, all for boosters and kids. unusual for Rotorua  so a good sign

James Bond:

243 new cases today, highest number we've had.

Was speaking with a Sydney friend today and quoted our numbers. He replied, “we had 11,000.”

Northland has doubled ?
So rate of increase there should give a pause to think for unvaccinated there.

It is not going to be long till we have new cases in the thousands.

it's the hospital numbers we should really be worried about, if they remain manageable then case numbers in the thousands shouldn't worry people.

UK 80,000+ and nobody there seems to take any notice anymore. It's the last item on the news. You would think someone would say something about 250+ people dying every day wouldn't you.

On Dec 1st, NSW had 242 cases. It took until Dec 15 for them to crack 1,000, but by Dec 29th they were at 11,000

Challenge accepted! Even with a 5 day headstart and a shorter month, I'm sure we can better that.

That 242 starting point for NSW was also likely to be almost all Delta. They were hovering around that number from late Oct.

How original

Despite the whole lack of 2 international borders to cross that they don't like the requirement for (like qld/nsw had)

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2022/02/police-aware-of-nz-convoy-anti-vaccine-mandate-protest-over-waitangi-weekend.html

Really do have some unoriginal groups that don't like being left out.

Yet another ridiculous, pointless protest. I really hope the numbers of people attending these stupid things is dropping. Do they not have jobs to do or lives to live or hobbies to follow?

No they don't. That's the whole point.

These people are disengaged from mainstream society and looking for a vector to allow them to lash out. Chances are that they have been in this mindset since long before covid came along, but the current crisis is bringing social disunity into the public eye.

Sadly, I think you're right. While I find ridiculous is the majority of the population is vaccinated (nearly 95%, isn't it?), and these people are very obviously in the minority, but they won't change anything doing this, nor will they win over anyone from the other side.

If the mandates get dropped (and I imagine once enough people are vaccinated they will eventually) then what would they do?

And then? Would they (hopefully) shut up and go away? Or find some new cause to be unhappy about?
