I have still yet to see a single person use this in the Wairarapa!

The office I work in has one on the front door and I scan it every day as I enter.

Disappointingly none of the retailers I've been to recently have been displaying them.

I spoke too soon. I went to Wendy's for lunch and they had a qovt QR code at the counter.

I use the app every day - arriving at work, at the local Mojo cafe, at the gym, my apartment building etc. Keeps a 30 day history for me of where I have been.

Using it on iPhone 10 and have no problems - very quick and easy to use.

Still come across places where there is no QR code so make a point of asking where the code is when entering a business without one. Seems to me that business' need to see the provision of a QR code as a service to their customers - at no cost to them and buying them some brownie points in helping the country manage the pandemic.

Minister Hipkins stated at today briefing the by the end of the months additional functionality will be in the MoH app for example

• The ability to add a diary entry where no bar code exists to scan (the example provided being friends and family as opposed to business who don't display the MoH code)
• Support for older phones (presumably OS versions)

All you need is to identify yourself using your drivers licence. There is a question that relates to your business number but you do not have to fill this in.  You will be sent a QR poster to print out by return email. Your friends can then scan when they visit or you can scan when you return home.

We all need to start doing this (using the app and scanning when we visit premises) so that when the inevitable happens contact tracing is made easier for all involved and the spread contained quickly. If a business hasn't got one displayed - ask them why and encourage them to get one displayed.

"Any further information you decide to record through NZ COVID Tracer – for example, the locations you sign into - is stored securely on your phone and automatically deleted after 31 days." 

This morning I see this graph on the NZ Herald website.

My question is, how can this graph be produced if data is not being harvested from phones?

The app does phone home to a central server the fact that you scanned "a QR code" as this is a requirement from WHO as part of any countries contact tracing capabilities. It doesn't indicate which QR you scanned or log your IP address or any other details about your device.

It was purely to gather metrics of the number of times any QR was scanned so that can be reported back.

I am sure it is somewhere as part of the press release or on a MoH page somewhere, but that is how the app tracks the fact you scanned a QR code.

And if we look over to Australia their app has been a resounding failure.

So I will re-iterate the app should only ever be considered an enhancement over and above solid contact tracing methods, but without widespread adoption and ongoing use above 70% of the population then it will not achieve it's goals.

Where it would be perfect its failing??!? oh dear.

Despite the Government's push to use the app, a top public health expert has described it as "doomed", with just 0.2 per cent of the population using it.

 

Part of the reason for that is the feeling it isn't really needed anymore.

Not using it till they get out of the darkages with how they expect me to use it. The privacy quacks have basically made it too much work to use.

Thanks BarTender. You are right. I found the MOH Privacy Impact Assessment and it says the following:

"Anonymous Statistical and Performance Information – this information will be
collected from Consumer’s interactions with the CCTA, and from its performance on
devices, to help the Ministry to understand the stability and effectiveness of the
CCTA, and develop equitable solutions"

What it doesn't say is that it will pass this information to the NZ Herald.

Anyone can grab and collate like they have. It's part of MoHs daily release to media data. Someones just had the foresight to crunch the numbers daily.

I was interested in getting a QR code for my own home but after reading all the terms and conditions it doesn't sound like they want individuals to make their own posters. In the Covid-19 Contact Tracing FAQ all of the language is geared towards businesses and it says:

 

1. Can anyone get a Covid-19 contact tracing poster with a GLN?

 

No. Covid-19 contact tracing posters with GLNs, are only available to registered NZBN entities.

 

So even though it might be possible to now register without providing an NZBN it doesn't seem like they want people to make posters for their homes.

Surely a really easy way to trace your movements is where ever you think there should be a QR code to scan just take a photo of the premises instead. Delete after a month.
