Oblivian: There's a perfectly good example of why I said the messaging is wrong from the press conference vs intended purpose of change.

It is no longer a requirement for a business to show QR codes or ask you to scan.
It is still recommended to do so for your own tracing

If the local countdown has removed them all from the windows. Good thing that diary remembers common ones.

Yet I recall the PM saying that scanning make come back in the future. So I really can't understand why they got rid of scanning at the moment. It costs nothing, shows good community practice.  Those businesses that have removed the QR codes may just have to put them back up in the future so what was the point of breaking the habit that people have got into. It will be far harder to reinstate and will impact attempts at contact tracing in the future.

Exactly.

The astute listened to the words, read the transcript or deeper text.

The rest, read the headlines they made up during that target the social media generation

'scanning and mandates to be scrapped '

So what does everyone do. Stop and remove when there was multiple perfectly logical reasons given to keep it up included in the entire context.

The only reason I could think of is given the massive ballooning of case numbers, it's too hard to do any contact tracing anymore, hence why scanning isn't necessary - but I agree with both of you, it would be too tricky to remove it (now the majority of us are in the habit) and then reinstate it later because it's "required".

Yep. Visited local Countdown Saturday afternoon and all gone. Like "Who cares if someone still wants to scan?"

Or not. Wife got a notification this morning that she was in contact with a positive case last Wednesday.

She's got a positive RAT today.

I'm sorry :( I hope she's feeling better soon.

As for myself, my mystery headache disappeared on its own, so maybe I didn't have coronavirus after all? I didn't take the test in the end.

Still in the marketing
Still on the information pages

Where its not, is with the logic of no harm leaving it up brigade

What the form is for
The COVID-19 contact tracing form lets you share:

any symptoms you may have developed (or remember)
details of your household contacts
details of any high-risk locations.
It also includes instructions on how to share your NZ Covid Tracer diary and Bluetooth data
.

Local Kmart has also cleaned up & removed all COVID-19 poster. One lonely A4 sheet stating that face masks are required.

One exposure check on mine yesterday has 799 keys in it

Not a thing anymore? Yeah right.

Guess will be making wrong manual entries or using historic ones for forseeable future then.

Good luck changing attitudes when it's needed again (which low numbers dont rule out using it to keep ahead)

My anti vaxxer (but vaxxed) mate now has it. Given one kid at school, the other a social butterfly probably not surprising. He's doing it hard, really bad sore throat. Omicron has that as a common symptom as its more the upper airways, but he said its an additional infection. Its highly unlikely to the that coincidental, but given his circumstances I wont go there.

Read the other day that getting infected isnt a silver bullet, it may not even be a bronze bullet. Article said that if you get a strain of Covid, the infection immunity will be very good, but mainly for that strain. Whereas a vaccine is different, it targets Covid overall. With future boosters likely to be a thing, they feel that an annual booster may have RSV, flu added to its makeup.

On the QR codes, my main employer (large retail business) has removed most QR posters in line with the "scrapping" - however every site is required to leave at least one QR at the main entrance so that customers can still scan in if they wish, and more posters in other any high traffic areas site management think necessary.

Interesting that other businesses in our wider corporate group have chosen to remove them entirely and not even give the option which does seem a little odd to me.

Makes no sense to remove the posters imo because some people will still want to trace their movements and it can make people feel safer. It also gives the message imo that the pandemic is over, when we have yet to reach the tip of this first wave in many places and there will be no doubt future varients and some could be worse. IMO they should just have gone back to making it voluntary to scan like they previously did it.

"We do have an ask for everyone, though: if a variant arises in the world that evades vaccines or is
more deadly, contact tracing will, once again, provide a critical role. Please stand ready, as business, to stand up QR codes again, or, as a citizen, to pull out your tracer app at a moment’s notice. Don’t remove the app from your phone just yet. "

Wouldn't be so bad if there was still one in a corner. But many even went with the earlier changes to limits even.

Somewhat a shot in the foot not talking to the techs? As good luck trying to implement again. It was already low for younger folk. But taking them down breaks a 2sec habit many others incl elderly had taken up. Which takes more than that to train :)

The fact the app is still interrogating for packets dates after the announcement is a sign system still has it doing work. So writing it off is a bit of an oops.

Some people seem to have the idea that living with it means pretending it does not exist and pretending it does not cause serious ongoing health problems. I'm not sure the health messages have kept up with this new phase.
