They're impressed and encouraging more.

Hope businesses get the same rattle-up

Grifters gonna grift.
Just putting it out there that any passive technology based on Bluetooth is going to fail.

Well $100 million could go a long way on the current app approach e.g. development, marketing, training for older folk, phones for those that don't have one, QR code compliance...

It's a bit of a he said she said at present.

The standups on 15 and 16, both had the PM and MoH explaining some small technical details during the Q&A sessions (not front and centre with the subsequent reporting) how they have seen the overseas modelling for BT not work. Getting ones too close, or too far, or just missing people and causing more work than they are worth by giving more to trace than they really need to focus on

And then Australia and their low upkeep not working to help curb their issues. As he even outlines

Now suggesting the logging app is a waste of time and spend lots on BT card instead when we have seen BT isn't as reliable in it's form? Sure, mention Singapore. But they've only just adopted and might be in the same boat come a months time

The way people lose eftpos cards now I suspect may lose that or refuse to carry as much as they refuse to install anything that /zomg tracking/ (while installing social media apps that do just that freely)

We know how opt-in goes down here. Can't imagine a card with the govt logo would go any better

They seem unwilling to provide any technical details of exactly how the card would work or it's design. Based on every other use of Bluetooth which has been a dismal failure, there is unfortunately not a lot to suggest this will work well.

Contact tracing app
" Requires Android 7.0 and up "

OK , just a massive fail at step 1 .
Get back into the real world , with the thousands of OLD android ph's  . v4.x to v6

As for the QR code .
I had to install a QR scanner before I could use/read it. No issue for me, but for others who arnt tech savvy ....
Fail no.2 .

No point targeting the Tech Savvy with this sort of stuff . It needs to be easy & idiot proof.
It needs to work on Android 4 and above, given just how many older ph's are still out there in everyday use
Many people will have no idea on how to install a QR scanner app , they see a phone as a phone .

MoH are looking to provide support for older phone OS versions. The minister of Health also stated by end of this month it would support older handsets including additional functionality i.e. manual adding where a QR does not exist

Do you expect optical implants to do it?

Not sure if you mean you installed a 3rd party scanner and are scanning the raw data - Cause that's not what is required. It's built in to the logging app within the governments edition. Via the camera access permission. Nothing to contrary suggests otherwise. And they're coding manual logging methods for those that don't scan/need to keep a diary for a future update along with lower model support.

For someone willing to put the hard yards into a 'not tech savvy' companies CNC machine you sure picked on something a lot simpler fast.

It may just be the tech savvy who will use it.
And some of those are reluctant to have the Govts apps tracing them and refuse to install it (Ive come across that attitude) , or have privacy concerns .

Many will not now how to install the apps on their ph . I see this fairly often, people who have no idea what Google Play store is & dont
know what the login/pass to the google/apple store is (if they even have one)
People who see the phone as a phone .

So, Would this make the update too low for this to be usefull ?
It would need to be up & running on the majority of phones BEFORE any NZ outbreak.

Your trolling isnt helpfull. Get off your high horse .
Im only stating what Ive experinced .
The QR app worked just fine without the tracing app .

I often have to try & help people with basic setup on smartphones because so many really have no idea
Lets not pretend that isnt going to be an issue .

So far as the current app goes. The horse has well and truly bolted. As for making it work, you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.

No one I know uses it.

The govt has been clear the current app is to augment the existing tracing capability, it seems apparent the govt is so far taking a soft encouragement approach to businesses and the public on the app use

The only sure way I can think of is customers are denied entry to a business unless they signed in with app or card, that in itself presumably would create all sorts of issues namely a legal and compliance requirement to list only two

Geekzone. Short un-detailed answers can often not be so helpful either.

It's appreciated by all when people expand on information to help others understand. We're more than ready for evaluative information vs basic understanding customers.

What extra above the linked in store app did you to install, and what exactly prompted it

A shops (not an official) QR that sent you elsewhere, or suggest Rippl per chance?

Because that Rippl scan the government ones. But it's not the approved one and as of yet alert data won't be pushed/shared as easily.
