The PM asked for people older than 70 to stay home. Companies should activate work from home protocols or shift work. Limit of movement, especially unnecessary travel.

I think the statement about people over 70 years of age was referring to people who are immuno-compromised or have certain pre-existing conditions. If you're a fit and healthy over 70-year old, I don't think you need to stay home.

Immunity drops as age increases. A fit 70yo has reduced immunity

@frednz please see the press release above: "People over 70 years of age, or people who are immunocompromised or have certain pre-existing conditions, need to stay at home as much as they can from now on. "

Thanks, yes, that's what I said earlier, so I don't think fit and healthy over 70-year olds need to stay home at this stage.

Sure, we now have 53 cases (about 11 per million of our population), but to put this into context, compare this with the UK which has 3,983 cases, which represents about 59 per million of their population.

Obviously NZ cases are on the move, but I don't think this should put us into panic mode, it is still a small number compared to the world's total of 275 thousand cases.

Don't worry about the details Fred, it's too late to stop community spread in NZ already. Everybody will be told to stay at home in less than 4 weeks time.

The only way to have stopped this was to go hard and go early and the government, in common with most other countries, didn't.

I'm just glad I'm in rural South Canterbury and not Auckland. I can pull up the drawbridge and be isolated pretty easily. Freezers full, lots of homegrown veges etc etc.

Careful, I think that conclusion of yours could be misinterpreted to mean that all over 70-year olds should stay at home, which I'm sure wasn't the intention of the recent statement, otherwise it would have said that specifically.

@frednz you are flat our wrong, read it again slowly.

People over 70 OR people who are immunocompromised

it doesn't specify fit or healthy it says people over 70. so it means all people over 70.

You read it wrong. There are two logical bits there.

Who needs to stay home?

People over 70 years of age;

People who are immunocompromised or have certain pre-existing conditions.

@frednz. One last time: ALL over 70s should stay at home.

Yes, for crying out loud.

Over 70's are immunocompromised. That's what happens with age

The press releases said that means all over 70, as did MF's re reply, as did Jase's. Its very clear

All people over 70 who can’t understand plain English should stay at home. 😀

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Personally I think we should be at level 3. Most businesses are shut as it is anyway.

dogstar001: Why are bars/cafes/restaurants still open at this point? We are looking at 1000 cases in about 14 days. At which point our healthcare system is overloaded.

I want to see what happens when incoming flights drop off. Because of those we are importing cases daily. They will turn up as cases in a few days to a week. IMHO, those new cases that are travel related arent NZ's current internal Covid-19 situation.

Anyone have the definition of "unnecessary domestic travel"? Can we travel within our own region? Go to a cafe for lunch/dinner, drive 30 mins to the nearest town to take the kids to the playground? Understand not traveling from say Chch to Auckland for the weekend but where to draw the line?

My opinion is the nearest town is the limit to staying in your own region, if not too far.

I feel you are looking at it the wrong way. Its not about "how much inconvenience will I allow" Its how can I help not spread the virus so that if there is an outbreak or cluster near me, its easy to contact trace and test and save those lives" If you travel 30 minutes and they travel 30 minutes then next things it has a WIDE radius.

Its not just about you, its about you infecting the vulnerable.

Its what ive said all along and expert's somewhat agree. Don't get someone to define it. Think and Do the right thing

If you are going to be near others. And if you were infected. Would you want to be on the receiving end. Especially when the person beside you could be a doctor.

I am now very, very worried and my anxiety is getting worse

Same here and same with everybody out there I assure you. I am ready to meet my maker, but I don't think [pronoun] wants to see me though.
