Interesting how in tough times people start crying out for a strongman (emphasis on 'man') to whip things into shape. Yeah, a good dictator will put that virus in its place. Let's start by suspending civil liberties and democratic process. Where have we heard that one before?

freitasm: I think the opposite.

I shudder to think what effect Simon Bridges or Paula Bennett would have.

Frankly we don't need partisan politics here in a time of global emergency.

Agreed. On the other hand shall I quote your own post that started this commentary?

So as you say, keep it out.

Probably exactly the same thing, given that we do not clear out our public service sectors with each incoming Governments (thank God). They would have had the same people advising them and largely working off the same planning that had gone on the background at MoH.

Ah Yes - But;

Would they be as articulate as the PM is?

Would they do it as decisively as the PM is performing?

Would they come across just as empathetic as PM Jacinda Ardern is?

Would they be thinking of the country and not September?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Quote: 'The labour led coalition are making too many mistakes that we are all going to pay heavily for.' Unquote.

What does 'labour led coalition' have to do with it? The authorities may well be making mistakes but I don't see how that relates to their political allegiance. They are doing their best, just as a 'National led coalition' would. The difference is that their best is better than what any current National line-up would be able to deliver.

This is what the politically-motivated critics keep missing. While the civil servants would be beavering away in the background regardless of the figureheads in charge, the role of the leaders is to inform, reassure and inspire. Few are better at this than Jacinda Ardern. I would not want anyone else in that role. We are very lucky to have her.

Stuff continue to “stuff” this up, “People over 70 years of age and who have pre-excisting health conditions are advised to stay home.”

the word “or” would be much better to be absolutely clear.

I said that because I did not want to blame the labour party alone.  Theirs is a coalition if you had not known.  We need all political parties involved.  There's been very little inclusion of the other two parties not in govt.

Ok, you want to discuss COVID-19 and politics, use this thread.

Keep it out of this one.

A letter is being signed now by doctors (only) up and down this country requesting that the Govt move immediately to Phase 4.  And yes, I signed it.

@gchui one thing I would love to get is an answer regarding continuing to take Humira during this outbreak. I have received yes, no maybe.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Not the first time. Yesterday they posted on their site that 70 and up to 'self isolate'  which is very different to being told to stay at home. Self isolation would't allow them to go shopping.

It is imperative that the media get their information 100% correct or instead redirect people to official sources.
