Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein tests positive in NYC state prison. This is pretty bad. It means the virus is already in at least one prison is only going to spread from there.

This is also an opportune reminder that there's a difference between constructive criticism and holding the powers that be to account versus just incessant sniping. An example of a sniper is Gareth Morgan. His twitter thread is full of posts using words like "bozo politicians", calling the PM out for "bull******", and asking people not to be "blinded by tertiary qualifications" etc. Times like this are quite revealing of people's character.

This is called quantitative easing. Gotta do what you gotta do to fend off financial collapse.

Like I said a few pages back, to some extent this is also a choice about what kind of world we wish to be. Given the Americans' track record of lack of healthcare, overcrowding and rights for prisoners, in the event of a mass outbreak in their prisons, you can expect a significant portion of the prisoners to die. Since prisoners and their families overwhelmingly come from poor communities, you can also expect visitors to be bring back the virus to their communities. The discourse need to be elevated beyond the usual facile nonsense of hyper-individualism and responsibility. People want to talk about war footing? It's time for some real sacrifice -- just stop going out.

More on the "DR" tag - we now have three people with "DR" tags assigned. Welcome to assign "Nurse" as well.

You know the drill folks - any misinformation in terms of diagnosis and treatment or related information not provided by a DR please report. We need to keep things clean. Other types of discussions, keep going.

A relevant email just received from our local (Wellington suburban) medical centre:

Subject:  Covid-19 update # 4. Reducing in-person contact

We have been advised to reduce the number of patients coming into our waiting rooms.

This is sensible advice, as we know it is often unwell people who come to the practice.

We are making significant changes to the way we work, with a big shift to telephone, online and video consultation.

We will see people who need to be seen, but by reducing the patient flow and waiting room numbers we can help stop Covid-19 spreading

When you phone to book an appointment our receptionists will try to arrange a 'virtual consultation' where the doctor or nurse will call you at the booked time.

If you feel you need to be seen in person the receptionist will pass you through to one of the nurses who will work with you to work out if this can be done via phone or if you do need to come in.

Things that will usually need to be seen in person is recent onset of new pain, shortness of breath or fever.

A lot of other health care can be handled over the phone. ...

Virtual consultations will include us arranging lab tests if needed, and faxing of your prescription to the pharmacy of your choice. ...

We will continue to keep you updated via text, this website and ManageMyHealth

www.healthnavigator.org.nz is a great site if you need health information.

Thank you.

All very useful real-world information in Plain English.  Slightly abridged.

The DR tag is on my wife - so I seem to be out. DR tag or not - remote "diagnosis/treatment" isn't allowed at all (according to German rules).

Same rules here. The idea is to make sure we know when/how to filter some information on diagnosis/treatment when posted.

Depending of permissions to fly over / to land in the relevant country to pick them up.

That's why our government is struggling to pick up Germans all over the world by chartered Lufthansa flights, even when the flights are non-stop back.
