No flights or ferries at all and as much as I would like her to be at home, her flight on Friday is not absolutely necessary so she and I agreed she should stay where she is.

If you have money and don't mind your daughter in close proximity to someone whose covid-19 status is unclear, you *could* try a charter flight (e..g. an aero club or similar). However, the club I belong to has ceased all operations except solo flights.

Make sure your Toby works and is not seized up.

And your rain water collection is working.

Actually, I expect it would count as "essential travel" for the plumber to come.
If you can find one willing to take the perceived risks, and he can find a wholesaler who will open to sell him some parts.

I expect there will be 'duty wholesalers' or some such arrangement for both plumbing and electrical supplies to provide an essential service for emergency rectification.

With local stores closing, I wonder if it will lead to a significant amount of offshore online purchases, while people are in isolation. Postal / courier services could be very busy.

In other news, bottle stores are busy. And some supermarkets have locked down to minimal restricted entry numbers with queues out the road

As much as I would like to see her at home, we've decided we're not going to add to the panic and she will stay in Christchurch.

I hope the tickets go to people who genuinely need them.

Unbelievably, people STILL aren't following the rules.

I have had one PC shop email me stating, amongst other things, that:

"From the 23rd of march onwards we’ll be closing our doors to retail shoppers, however customers will still be able to shop online for delivery. Until further notice: Online pickup orders will be processed and available for collection between the hours of 11am and 1pm each day ONLY."

"Support jobs will be strictly DROP OFF only – and jobs MUST be lodged in our system before drop off. – we will not be available to troubleshoot or diagnose issues while you wait."

Which part of non-essential businesses are to close do these brain dead and avaricious people not understand?

Does anyone know to whom these people can be reported for a prompt slapdown?

Serious question, has anyone heard, or know if they will be closing private road travel between regions?

Is there anything stopping us packing up the car, leaving New Plymouth, and driving to our bach near Taupo, in a very small community, and sitting this out there for 4 weeks? (would rather be remote, than stuck in a larger town).
What if we are not allowed to return to our normal home? (e.g. drive on the roads)

The "ManageMyHealth" site appears to have been crashed, presumably it's locally-hosted or self-hosted and just can't handle the load.They managed to send me an email saying I should look at something, but I can't log in: if I click on the "Login" button, it just sends me back to the home screen.

Another spectacularly good example of pandemic planning ... not
Whoever would have imagined that a health system could come under extra load if there was a pandemic alert?

Of course, they have got unlucky: a pandemic alert and the beginning of the flu immunisation season (that's why I was on it)

I believe every man and his dog has been trying to organise prescription repeats, as if that's going to stop after Wednesday. Sigh
It's as stupid as panic-buying petrol

Yeah, you'd think they would host this on the cloud and spin up more instances to handle the load.

So I have been spammed (using that word loosely, as given my previous customer relationships with these people and my choice to opt in, these correspondences are not spam under the relevant legislation) by the following entities clearly stating that they will operate online shopping post March 24:

Mightyape
Playtech
Zealong Tea Estate

I won't be buying anything from these people again. The one shining light has been DJI Ferntech, which has clearly stated that they won't operate and ship after tomorrow.

I had a similar email from a building materials supplier, where they will still have people making products. Maybe they wrote it before the restrictions came into force?

Is there a list of what they consider essential services that can stay open?

Some businesses will be one man companies that operate solely online and run their business form home anyway, and may never have any direct physical contact with people, so IMO it would be common sense that they can keep working. Plus many people are already working from home as part of their job, as many people just need a PC and an internet connection.

This does beg a question in terms of all the houses currently under construction, are they just now going to stop? Some buildings need to get code of compliance before a certain date. Are councils going to follow common sense, or are they restricted by laws?

Guessing things like open homes on houses for sale will be called off etc, or will agents still be able to show people around houses being sold?

* Building and construction related to essential services, critical infrastructure, or immediately needed to maintain human health and safety at home/work
Courts, tribunals and the justice system
* Courts of New Zealand and tribunals
* Critical Crown entities (eg Electoral Commission)
Education at Level 3 only:
* Schools and educational facilities (e.g. ECE centres)
Fast-moving consumer goods
* Businesses involved in the supply, delivery, distribution and sale of food, beverage and other key consumer goods (but not takeaway shops)
Financial services
* Banks, insurers and other financial institutions
Health
* Hospitals, primary care clinics, pharmacies, medical laboratories, care facilities
* Ambulance services
* Mortuary services
Local and national government
* Any entity involved in Covid-19 response or that has civil defence/emergency management functions
Key public services
* Primary industries, including food and beverage production and processing

Public safety and national security
* Emergency services

* Any entity (including research organisations) involved in Covid-19 response, hazard monitoring, resilience, diagnostics for essential services

* Welfare and social services, including NGOs, which meet immediate needs (further guidance will be provided)

* New Zealand Post and courier services
* Any small passenger service vehicle driver – including taxis and ride-share services
* Utilities and communications, including supply chains

This list would be reviewed over the coming days, All of Government Controller John Ombler said.
NON-ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES
At alert level 3, non-essential businesses in New Zealand must close. According to the Government's Covid-19 website, this includes all bars, restaurants, cafes, gyms, cinemas, pools, museums, libraries and playgrounds.
Any other place where the public congregates that is deemed non-essential must close its face-to-face operation. All indoor and outdoor events are cancelled.
Additionally, over the next 48 hours as the country moves to level 4, takeaway services must close their operations.

There’s now a list on the live coverage on Stuff. I can’t see how a PC shop or even a random building materials supplier fits into essential services unless the latter is supplying stuff for critical infrastructure or stuff required to maintain health and safety etc. To be clear, it seems crystal clear to me that your average house build must stop.
