I do have a real difficulty regarding the meal kit services above as essential. They started off as a convenience for affluent time poor people. Having time shouldn't be a problem for anyone over the next few weeks and/or months.

If you think about it from the point of view of reducing everyone's interactions with other people, meal kits are another form of bulk food delivery. It's clear the supermarkets can't keep up with the demand for delivery, so having other companies able to deliver a week's worth of food is helpful. What we want to avoid is everyone heading to the supermarkets every few days to buy food. Of course some people will still have to - but if we can reduce that number by delivering meal kits, so be it.

And stop with this joke of The Warehouse being allowed to stay open.

I think this comes from this piece in the Herald

Covid-19 coronavirus: The Warehouse says it will remain open during lockdown

I think the Warehouse should get with the program.

I know it comes from that. When I said "Stop with this joke" was an invocation - someone must realise it's a joke some companies got this "essential" classification when they clearly aren't supplying foodstuffs.

I think it's a joke that The Warehouse Group are allowed to remain open and classified as essential services while the wife's psychology therapy practice must close.

We have been using My Food Bag for about 6 months. It has replaced 50% of our food shopping.

I'd view this in a similar vein to countdown online rather than a takeaway. If they cancel countdown online then I'd expect to see these sorts of services cancelled.

The more exceptions there are the more likely the lockdown will have to extend as containment breeches keep occurring.

The hazards of self-medication:

The Washington Post - Man dies after self-medicating with chloroquine phosphate to treat coronavirus

today

A man died in Phoenix after self-medicating with chloroquine phosphate to treat covid-19, Banner Health announced in a statement Monday.

The man’s wife, who also self-medicated with chloroquine phosphate, is in critical care, according to Banner Health. The man was in his 60s, as is his wife.

This came just two days after President Trump suggested, in a tweet, that a mix of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin could be an effective treatment for covid-19.

Neither drug had been approved by the Food and Drug Administration or World Health Organization as a treatment for the coronavirus, and has not been in the time since.

“Given the uncertainty around COVID-19, we understand that people are trying to find new ways to prevent or treat this virus, but self-medicating is not the way to do so,” Daniel Brooks, medical director of Banner Health’s Poison and Drug Information Center, said in the statement.

“The last thing that we want right now is to inundate our emergency departments with patients who believe they found a vague and risky solution that could potentially jeopardize their health.” ...

I am furious about the warehouse. I also know of other retailers like mitre 10 who think they will be open tomorrow.

I tried calling their head office to give them a piece of my mind but it seems many others beat me to it, lines are jammed.

This is going to end very badly if this is not enforced properly.

they are allowed to open until midnight Wednesday, it was the reason we didnt go straight to level 4 so  people could do last minute shopping before every thing was shut down.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

How does one self medicate with a prescription drug?  And was he treating  his own infection?

Death likely from Torsades de Pointes an arrhythmia which can proceed to VF.

alexx:

So now there are people living in small apartments with no kitchens who are being told to stay at home in their small apartments for 4 weeks and they will want to eat some hot meals.

These people don't know about microwaves?

They have announced they are "essential" and will remain open. You need to keep up with the news.

The Washington Post - Man dies after self-medicating with chloroquine phosphate to treat coronavirus

Yet the biggest fool on the planet is tweeting madly to his loyal fools that hydroxychloroquine is a possible miracle cure, based on an article written by half-wits published in a tabloid rag.

A Florida man diagnosed with coronavirus claims he was saved from certain death by an anti-malaria drug touted as a possible treatment by President Trump.

Near the bottom of the article - for people who can read that far, which wouldn't be too many NY Post readers - apparently including the person who reads Trump stories before his morning nap:

Giardinieri said doctors believe the episodes he experienced were not a reaction to the medicine but his body fighting off the virus.

Well doh.

Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine have "shown promise" as anti-viral agents (to treat other viruses) when tested in vitro.  They subsequently failed to show any benefit in clinical trials.

I'm sorry if this seems like a "political" post, but IMO it belongs here. Trump is a serious danger to the world - he's going to have blood on his hands in the USA - and elsewhere if he's listened to.
