Australia just banned leaving. At all. Still no support for the over half a million NZers stuck here, many of whom will be employed in the laundry list of locked down industries.

They had plenty of time to get out. This was clearly happening.

they can't "get out". they live in Australia. Australia is their home. but due to some crazy law they must pay all the taxes but are not allowed to get any state benefits.

Interesting stats and analysis here https://www.cebm.net/global-covid-19-case-fatality-rates/

It's a bit disturbing that they're are no African countries listed, except Egypt and Burkina Faso.

Either they are very lucky on the continent, or they're not testing as much as they need to.

no test, no cases

How many boats can we muster? If the Aussies can't learn from Gallipoli maybe we can learn from Dunkirk.

How is Trademe an essential service? Are they not just a P2P retailer? Retailers are shut, why are Trademe not shut?

I am convinced a big reason this pandemic is so bad is due to social media.

My relatives have sent me umpteen messages about how to keep safe from the virus.

It ranges from drinking lots of fluid hotter than 27 C to holding your breath to breathing hot air to all sorts of messages on self diagnosis and treatment.

Explains why nobody listens to the govts, because they know better.

And the govts ... well ...

Trademe don't actually sell anything. They are just a website basically so all their staff will be working from home. All businesses that can operate from home are allowed to operate.

I don't use social media at all but have still had people message me stuff about pharmaceutical "cures" much the same as Trumps recent discussions that were soon shot down by the FDA.

Please, folks, ignore "health" advice on WhatsApp and Facebook. Lookup for trusted people - there are quite a few, we are a small country, we know them. Unless your aunt's friend's niece is one of these few people, ignore it.

The Washington Post - Coronavirus Updates

Today

President Trump said Tuesday that he wants to end the restrictions by Easter - April 12 - and continued to play down the dangers of the pandemic, even as experts warned of a worsening crisis.

Trump said on Fox News that he would love to see “packed churches all over our country" on Easter Sunday.

Before the president called for a re-opening of the economy, six of his top seven revenue-producing clubs were shut down.

Health experts warn ending the shutdown too soon would be disastrous, because the country has barely given restrictions time to work, and because U.S. leaders have not used strategies other countries have deployed to avoid hundreds of thousands of deaths.

A World Health Organization official said that the U.S. has the potential to become the new epicenter of the global crisis.

“We are now seeing a very large acceleration in cases in the U.S.,” WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said. ...

Words fail me.  🙁

The only case of food poisoning I ever got was from a Dominos Chicken Pizza. Took me about 15 years before I could eat chicken pizza again, and even now, I try and avoid it with the exception of the one from Hell with the cream cheese and Apricot sauce.

I hate chicken pizza.

My only food poisoning was listeriosis which meant 9 days in hospital. I ate at a well known chicken outlet before, somewhere I rarely ate before and now never do.

Looks like the USA is going to end up being a nation of atheists and agnostics.

I live next to the Waikato River. I have a Jetski. I can (and do)  launch it into the river from my property with 0% chance of me seeing anyone outside of my 'bubble'. I dont have to travel anywhere.

I would be lucky to pass by 1 person per hour on the river, and certainly not closer than 2m (probably 50m) on a normal weekend day.

In my mind, this is fine, and will be within the level 4 rules.

What are the thoughts of Geekzone?

Daniel

If you fall off and hurt yourself, the jetski blows up, you run out of gas or whatever, then don't count on getting rescued or having anyone come to help.

Coast Guard has appealed for recreational boating, fishing etc to cease.

I wouldn't do it.

Message received. I won't be :-(

Maybe the Govt is not being clear in its messaging.

Stay at home.  If you have a river running through your property then do what you like but don't expect emergency services to come and patch you up when they're overwhelmed with covid-19 responses.

Likewise, I'm concerned about all these people who have decided to do home renovations or whatever.  How many of them are now going to injure themselves and want to attend ED?
