As a government you only have the choice between two scenarios: mitigation or suppression. The latter is more expensive and costs less lifes. If you can't afford suppression, there is only mitigation. That's what we currently see in Spain and Italy (and others countries next).

There is no "they" and "we" there is the same everywere in the world only at different stages. You and we do not perform better than others but time is valuable to act. And really to be honest, I wonder how medical DRs can still sit here in their armchairs when the hell will break out next.

What do people think of this story? IMO We don't want to risk there being sick people working in supermarkets, whatever the illness is IMO, and those over 70 have already been told they need to stay at home I had thought.

What about eradication? I would have thought NZ was one of only few countries that could still achieve this, if we also do widespread testing so we know who has got it / had it. China appears to be going down this track, at least from official figures.

Wage Subsidy

My mate is low paid, drives a frozen food truck. They get the subsidy. AS they can only service rest homes, they are all now down to one day a week. I thought the idea was that the wage subsidy is a subsidy? That the employer will top that up, to keep them employed (helps NZ economy) and reduces employer costs (helps the employer for when we can retain staff and get back to normal)

My mate appears to only be getting the subsidy. Is that how its supposed to work?

Just talked to a neighbour, retired medical, who's signed up in case she's needed. Apparently 2,500 other retired medical people have done the same. That's an amazing response, we need more stories like this in the news.

Service stations are open, an essential service. Why? I heard the other day that some people drive to the supermarket. I also heard that some drive to work. I dint recall that the lockdown banned cars, I may have missed that....

I agree. i didn't plan well enough, my work role has been smothered with work due to many working from home. Put off groceries as no time to wait behind panic buyers. I actually felt guilty driving to the gas station. Having said that, why are so many cars on the road today? Ill admit his post, mentalinc annoyed me. As someone like many who take the lockdown seriously.

It was local, now sorted.

I don't care if some of these stores are individually owned. The companies behind them make enough profit from customers when times are good. They can damn well share some of the pain with their lowest-paid employees in a time of need. Give them at least something and send them home.

I am essential. As in work for an essential business. I could have sorted fuel sooner. But I didn't. And I logged in today, in my own time, to see if anyone was urgent, as in an essential need, which they were, sorted that. Sorted three actually. Now im bagged for going to the gas station, ugh.

Like I said, who sets CC rates? Banks or Visa/Mastercard? I actually don't know, Id suggest the latter if I had to be forced for an answer. But what Im picking up here is a blame game. Its not the time. Maybe the banks can cancel the mortgage holidays and the many other measures to help us, that Robertson has worked with them to do, and we can just have a few points dropped off CC rates?
