Hopefully the person near the wearer has a mask also. Therefore is it a problem?

Yes, because the point of the fabric type masks is to capture moisture before it spreads. Once it spreads, it will happily settle on the outside of another fabric mask, leading to contamination. Unless the mask has an airtight seal around the nose and mouth, as well as having a filter to the correct spec, then it is there to protect others, not the wearer. So, if it lets unfiltered breath out, then it is offering no protection to those nearby, and shouldn't really be used.

I like the idea of a merino mask. Followed the link provided but the seller has no active auctions. Any feedback on these and other sources?

From the links on the first page, I bought from https://earthseasky.co.nz/product-category/helix-iso-masks/ and disposables from https://www.worksafety.co.nz/

i read somewhere that the thicker the fabric and multiple layers of thick fabric is as good as medical grade (not surgical) masks.

avoid thin fabrics ones

If you can see through it then it is no good. (Gossamer fabric is only good in certain settings - nudge nudge wick wick)

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I ordered a 50-pack of disposable masks for $34.99 (inc GST and shipping) from https://www.bactive.co/ I understand that this is a Zuru company and that they supply masks to the MOH. I ordered on Friday morning and a courier dropped them off on Saturday morning.

Any feedback on the masks you've purchased now they've had some use? The catus outdoor reviews aren't great...

I have Cactus first generation. They are too small for me really.

We just had our order from Swanky Socks (AU based) arrive.

3 Masks (with pockets for PM2.5 filters) and a 10 pack of filters for $60 wasn't too bad.

Took ages to arrive, but they are nice to wear, look good and the filters are a good added extra.

Now we have compulsory mask-wearing in certain situations, I'm enjoying the delights of attempting to shop with either fogged-up glasses or no glasses at all - the end result of either option being I can't see properly!

So what 'solutions' to this problem have people tried that actually work? Eg, does cleaning the lenses with detergent do anything?

Are there particular (reusable) masks that some have found work better with glasses?

I'm going to try to insert flexible wire in the top seam of my masks (both cotton home-made and work-issued types) to try for a better fit, but I'd welcome any other suggestions or specific masks/designs that have proven to work.

Thanks in advance.

I got 3 masks for $20 at Barkers, they have a wire in them to help with glasses. I did find the higher up your nose you can place the mask the more it helps with fog. Also I saw in a local FB group comment you can get anti-fog wipes from some optometrists.

Thanks - that's useful to know they were selling ones like that, but it doesn't look like they have them at the moment - only fashion-conscious ones at $50 apiece! https://www.barkersonline.co.nz/accessories/face-mask.html

I've tried adding a wire to one of the cotton masks and it worked surprisingly well; I just need to find thicker wire for the others as standard twist ties don't cut the mustard - I'm wondering about whether using a wire or two from spare solid-core CAT6 or speaker cable I've got could work?

What has worked to an extent for me  when I am wearing glasses is:

Get a tissue, fold it in half, and half again ( to get  like a 1" folded strip )

Place it on the inside of your mask, along the top edge, so it sits right over the bridge of your nose and lays against your cheeks.

Adjust the mask and place your glasses over it for better results

I might try the antifog rain X wipes on my glasses.  The liquid in the bottle worked really well on my bathroom mirror.  Needs to be re-applied if cleaned with glass cleaner
