I think you're missing the point. The Deaf Aotearoa President put it best:

I think we have plenty to be proud of for actually choosing to engage deaf people via the means that they often prefer. Merely making do via subtitles (as some overseas governments choose to do instead) isn't as nice. And, yes, I am quite aware that we are in the digital age -- but thanks for your massive dose of enlightenment.

BBC News - Coronavirus: US Navy captain pleads for help over outbreak

The captain of a US aircraft carrier carrying more than 4,000 crew has called for urgent help to halt a coronavirus outbreak on his ship.

Scores of people on board the Theodore Roosevelt have tested positive for the infection. The carrier is currently docked in Guam.

"We are not at war. Sailors do not need to die," Captain Brett Crozier wrote in a letter to the Pentagon.

Captain Crozier recommended quarantining almost the entire crew.

In the letter Captain Crozier said that with large numbers of sailors living in confined spaces on the carrier isolating sick individuals was impossible. ...

This article is alarmist, the disease can't be transmitted via sweat. If runners keep 2 meters their is no problem.

Another news.com.au clickbait story. Nothing on the NZ Herald website is worth even worth if you see that as the source.

Remember last month when they told us the virus was airborne? Yeah nah. Wasn't then, still isn't now.

INAL, but section 8 seems to conflict.. also can't see where "medical treatment" is defined... I'm sure there will be some loop hole to force it.. Not vaccinated, no kiwi saver top up, or working for families, or ECE payments for your kids or free medical treatment of any complicationsetc etc.. Much like aussie don't let kids into day care unless vaccinated

No section 8 doesn't conflict. Read section 3 and you'll understand why.

The number of people in Hamburg with a Covid 19 disease in the hospital is still manageable. Nevertheless, it is striking: Most are male and - contrary to expectations - many patients are significantly younger than 65 years. The reason for this is still unclear.

Most Covid 19 patients come to the hospital with breathing difficulties. It is very characteristic of the disease that radiologists notice a so-called milk glass clouding of the lungs in computer tomography - this indicates a large-scale inflammation.

The patients get oxygen against their shortage of air, some have to be artificially ventilated for days. Even if the rush has not yet reached the clinics, wards are already closed in many places to free nurses for the Covid 19 patients. And in all clinics, doctors and nursing staff are trained in the operation of the ventilators to relieve the intensive care units. It is foreseeable that the number of patients will increase significantly in the next few weeks.

(Stats as of today: Known 2290 of 1.842 Mill. inhabitants infected, but 750 of them recovered, 10 fatalities, 40 of 1280 ICUs in use)

Well, strictly Covid-19 is the disease you get from being infected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus so that headline is incorrect because they're talking about a vaccine, and not a cure for a person with the disease.

They have found what they think is a highly conserved region of the virus that they must think it also very immunogenic, and presumably common to all the strains currently circulating. They're looking for funding to produce this protein/vaccine.

They could of course release the sequence they found and see if others agree, and are willing to manufacture it for testing overseas ... phase 1,2 and 3 trials.

Yes, it is a very confusing article; cure or vaccine

First off the article talks about a cure, "to speed up the process of finding and creating the cure for COVID-19."

Then jumps in with a possible vaccine, "After 250 formulations, the scientists settled on a candidate vaccine known as S-Spike"

Then it jumps back to a cure using "these drugs are Chloroquine, which is an anti-malarial drug, and a combination of lopinavir and ritonavir, which acts as an HIV-suppressor, have shown promising results in human tests."

It is almost 'click bait'. The banner headline makes no mention of a vaccine. Very shoddy. Almost Trump like. The journalist should go and work for Fox News.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

There's billions of dollars up for grabs for a potential effective treatment or cure. All sorts of things are crawling out of the woodwork, "pre-print" non-peer reviewed papers by academics seeking fame and glory or a Nobel prize, and sensational claims by shyster companies seeking capital injections.
Take most of it with a grain of salt, more than half the stuff even I can pick huge gaping holes in and I left school when I was 12, the media need to tidy up their act / fine tune their BS meters - because it's coming thick and fast.

Yes, too many short cuts being taken like skipping animal models. That's a receipt for failure. Desperation and creating unsafe vaccines is a sure way to put the world into chaos even more.

I am not really sure what that has to do with it.

We are an island nation. People cannot walk or drive in over a land border. It was obvious long before we reached the stage of restricting normal life that this was coming and that keeping it out altogether was surely better than trying to deal with it once it arrived.

Unique amongst the world, we could have kept it out had we tried. We would not have had to do anything we have not already done - merely do it sooner.
