I totally get your frustration. We have been 10 days isolating. A total waste of time that could have been avoided if we had RATS available.

Phase 3 will help a lot with this, they need to bring it in immediately since testing capacity is broken.

Go to your local CBAC and get a RATS, they are readily available, though it will be a long wait I suspect, unfortunately. We spent 3 hours yesterday.

A community testing location? We just go to our doctor, who does PCR testing. I know Auckland has RATS available, I'm not sure if they do in Wellington yet or not.

I'm in and out of quite a few houses with work, mainly elderly clients. I mask up, and most of them say "you don't have to wear it".... I ignore it and carry on.

I've struck that too.
The misconceptions still seem to be prominent rather than the reason. 'I'm jabbed and boosted therefore bulletproof, nor care/realise that I might be still passing to you regardless of status'
Rather than actually thinking 'thats to stop droplets from me, thanks for considering me'

My son had a cold for 12 hours. We can't send him to school until we get a covid test and a negative result, which takes 5-7 days. So there's five days off school and five days off work which would have been much reduced if rapid antigen test had been available.

Doctors dont have access to RAT's for testing at the moment

want one you have to go to a testing site

Pick up RATs this morning via work, as expected my youngest tested positive. She is still waiting on PCR that was done Monday morning. Other three in household all negative via RATs. It has been a stressful week, wish the RATs were available more widely and earlier.

I hope she recovers without much problem and the rest of your family does well.

In case anyone was still wondering about Sweden's approach....our son flew there three weeks ago after being offered a contract to play football.

He wasn't allowed to journey through Amsterdam to see family in case he caught Covid.

The first week he had to sleep at the clubrooms because there was Covid in his apartment block and they didn't want him in there. The second week all training was cancelled because the coach caught it.

Later that week, and the day he was to move into a different apartment, the family of another member of the coaching staff tested positive. The club gave the apartment to the coaches family so they could isolate, but the coach (who was initially negative) decided to stay with them. So then he caught it.

Both stayed at home for a couple of days but were straight back to pre-season training the moment they "felt ok".

Two days ago he woke up with symptoms and asked a team mate to get him a RAT test, his reply was "sure, but it will have to wait until I go there next".

But the following day his two flatmates both wake with symptoms as well, so one goes to the supermarket to get them a test each. All three test positive. Who knows how many he could have infected on the trip but ce la vie.

Only health care workers and elderly care workers are followed up with PCR tests. Everyone else is just told to stay at home for a few days. The club doctor has at least told him to stay away from training for a further 48 hours after having no symptoms.

RAT tests are not counted in the national statistics so no-one other than him (and anyone he tells obviously) is aware he has Covid. It was reported a few weeks ago half of Sweden's health authorities haven't sent in hospitalisation, test or death results for months. So who knows what their actual figures are.

Since he got there recorded testing has gone from 90k a day to 20k. All on the back of the government saying they had hit the peak and it would all be over soon. Positive tests now account for almost 80% of the testing they actually report on and their reported deaths have more than doubled. But no-one bats an eyelid.

I'm sure he'll be fine. He's young, fit, double-vaxxed and is prepared with the drugs he needs to get through. But the blase attitude the Swedes have to Covid really is something else.

So basically, Sweden went from "Our response is no response" at the start to "Our response is no response" at the end.

Daughter off school today, complaining of a sore throat. RAT test available at testing centre, came back negative after ten minutes, waiting another ten minutes then she's free to go.

There is definitely something going around that isn't Covid. It's what we all had. Sore throats, cough, no fever. My son had a runny nose as did my wife, I didn't.

Or perhaps it's COVID but π (Pi)?

Under the new rules though, you need to stay home if you have symptoms regardless of test results right?

I don't think so "Under phase 3, only confirmed cases and household contacts of a confirmed case will need to isolate for 10 days."
