What's wrong with stupid people? Oh, stupid. We are being very liberal with the use of this word nowadays: "Man undergoes surgery before disclosing symptoms"

"Southland Hospital emergency operations centre controller Jo McLeod said the man was admitted to hospital for surgery last week and only told staff of his symptoms after he'd shared a room with two people and the surgery had been performed. He has since tested positive for Covid-19. "

Thirteen medical staff in self-isolation now. Out of the frontline where they are needed.

Rikkitic:

I would just add that what people like this don't get is that it's not about how good they are, It's about people making exceptions for themselves. Everyone thinks they are good until they are not. The purpose of the rules is to stop people making exceptions for themselves. No doubt some really are that good and would never get hurt, but they set a terrible example for those who are not. The only way to be sure no-one exceeds their abilities is to set a rule that prohibits everyone from trying. It is not about the egoist with superior skills. It is about setting a standard that protects everyone else.

There's actually considerable evidence showing that fatal car accidents, by way of an example, tend to occur in much higher proportions when drivers are near their destinations, most of which they would be presumably quite familiar with. On a population-wide basis, the only way to minimise (to the maximum extent possible) unnecessary hospitalisation and more is for people to absolutely avoid doing anything other than going out for essentials or doing the lowest risk of exercises.

But stupid self-centred imbeciles can't contemplate such basic realities.

FFS, it's really not hard people. I don't know if it's just me or has this world changed into a "me and everyone else can get stuffed". This way of thinking will never works, help others and we all move forward towards better times.

As someone in SciFi once said "Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few."

Ge0rge:
afe66:I find it funny in a strange way how ministers with minimal experience in their portfolio's tell people who have worked in an industry for decades what to do.

I wonder if they ever have thoughts of "Yes what ever in 12 months someone else will be doing your job"

Every three years there is hope...

Not really both groups are as bas as each other.

With exception of maybe PM and Minister of finance, it seems being a minister of something you only do for less than a year.

All those "cabinet shakeups".

Another thing to consider is that if you breathe in a small number of particles your immune system should take care of it, you need to take in more than some minimum amount for it to affect you, however we have no data on what this is

current estimate is that the inoculum is only a few hundred to a few thousand virions

Can we take that to mean an average? As in it only takes one virus to infect someone, but the other hundreds/thousands of virions are either not taken up by the body or are handled by its natural defenses?

I would totally support this. There is enough info out now on tv, radio, social media etc for everyone to understand what is happening. I'm not buying the "I did not think it was this bad" from people that have been snapped out.

Every ad break or 2 on tv is an covid 19 alert message. Maybe we should ask Netflix to start adding them at the start of every 2nd movie/episode lol.

It's observer bias.  All the mountain bikers who have crashed have both hands with plaster of Paris on them and so they can't post.

Oh yea - nothing like a good FOOSH bilaterally to ruin your day, especially for us males 😀

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I saw Raymond Gary Coombs on TV, leaving jail after pleading guilty. He said he didn't know coronavirus was such a big deal. He claims to not watch TV and only get the new from Facebook and friends.

So, in summary, an idiot.

I think the time for "friendly education" has passed. It is time for arrests and examples.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

What rate is Oz testing at?

You just need to see the Oz death rate, and IMO it shows that their confirmed cases vs how many people actually have it, seem very low. This may indicate that a lot of people have it in Oz, but have not been tested yet.

Yes NZs confirmed cases per population is similar to what Oz is. But our death rate is significantly lower, even taking into consideration those in serious condition. I believe this was also discussed at the daily briefing in the weekend, that we are picking up a higher percentage of cases than other countries, which s why our death-rate is so low.Otherwise we would see more serious cases presenting to the hospital.

Thats always been my fallback when I consider and wonder how well we are doing. It doesn't appear to be happening. There is bound to be those with mild Covid-19 that think they just have a cold, we often see those with really minor symptoms. But they are locked down, so all pretty good.
