neb: Interesting reading for those who can read German, the German government's risk analysis for nation-scale threats, including a pandemic. The specific threat scenario for a pandemic starts on page 55. I wonder how long it'll take for the conspiracy nuts to latch onto this: It talks about a virus that originates at a wet market in Asia in January and hits Europe in April, and continues on from there. Amazing that the Robert Koch Institute, roughly the German equivalent of the CDC, already knew about this in 2012. It has to be a conspiracy, but now the Germans are in on it too! I always knew Merkel was a lizard under that mask.

Some of the christian nuts are convinced that it's the end times and Jesus is about to pay us all a visit.

The NIH has just approved a 3D-printed mask. OTOH like the various other 3D-printing efforts I wonder how useful it is beyond y'all-watch-this, at 20 minutes per mask plus say ten minutes to cycle to a new print run you're doing 48 masks a day if you run 24/7, assuming you can actually run a typical 3D printer 24/7. With China allegedly making ~200 million masks a day, the combined output from 3D printing amounts to little more than a rounding error in the total.

Probably better in the politics thread, but good - he deserved that for being dumb/entitled.

Now would be a good time for Bridges to be honest about the real reason for his 1,000km round trip by car. "The internet wasn't good enough" doesn't cut it - not even close - and he's aspiring to be PM. Honesty matters.

That's (part of) a faceshield, not a mask. Asper my reply in another thread, 3D printing masks is a bad idea, because 3D printed items leak.

While I agree that 3D printing isn't great for mass production, it does some advantages; it can be done close to the point of use, is spare capacity, and there's a very short lead time.

If he is in ICU there must be some sort of protocol of somebody taking over.

From the BBC article:

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to intensive care in hospital after his coronavirus symptoms "worsened", Downing Street has said.

A spokesman said he was moved on the advice of his medical team and is receiving "excellent care".

Mr Johnson has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise "where necessary"

If the goal is to show us how we compare to other countries (deviations from exponential growth), then the following is better

Agreed, he is totally out of his depth however, just look what he did at the start of all this. Just another example of not doing the right thing and the impact on people. Bet he never planned on this happening when he said they were going to do herd immunity 🤔

Trouble is that the log/log graph wouldn't have illustrated his point as we are still in the part of the curve where, with low values, exponential growth can appear linear and vice versa. It's only when we depart from the straight line exponential growth line that we can say the lockdown is effective. And we are doing that but don't think he could have used that whereas his graph appears to show us a lot less than others but proportionately does nothing of the sort.

Question,

There is plenty of information around showing where in the country CV-19 cases are located but what I can't find is a representation or information on where there are currently active cases as opposed to now historical data.

For example the Wairarapa has seen 8 cases - but how many of these are currently active cases?

I suspect that this data (in conjunction with a large "no cases" buffer) is what could be used to determine the lifting of restrictions area by area.

Anyone seen this?
