My ability to deal with the stress and anxiety of this almost at an end.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

This to will pass.

I understand completely.

Turn off your social media and news for a couple of weeks. There is unlikely anything that comes out of those two sources that couldn't be relayed to you if it was absolutely necessary, by other people.

You don’t go out much and take precautions so chances are likely quite slim. Remember this is Omicron so not quite as serious as Delta. I’ve upped precautions now that it’s so rife. We were getting a bit blasé before it hit Wellington.

I received my PRC results this morning, from my test on the 18th.

I hope the results were satisfactory.

This. More than anything, this. In fact for social media I'd say don't go on there in the first place because of its toxicity and the unpleasant mental health effects, but beyond that also disconnect from the news. It's very easy to do, I haven't bothered with it for years because if it's anything really important I'll find out by some other means, and it means I'm not exposed to a constant stream of doom and gloom.

People have sometimes commented on my sunny, positive outlook on the world at large which I've found surprising because I'm more the grump old bugger type than the rose-tinted glasses type, but I'd say it's at least in part due to the fact that I'm not constantly absorbing bad news from everywhere.

I don't think so "Under phase 3, only confirmed cases and household contacts of a confirmed case will need to isolate for 10 days."

From my wife:

Guidelines say stay home until symptom-free for 24 hours.

No 10-day isolation.

I own/run a business that employs 23 people I really can’t avoid going out. I am away from the office until at least the end of April and directed all sales contact to be by Teams or similar. My wife tries to do the bulk of meetings that must be face to face but I can’t put everything on her.

One good thing, I am booked to get my fourth shot, the booster this weekend.

So basically, Sweden went from "Our response is no response" at the start to "Our response is no response" at the end.

TBF I'm not sure they did much in the middle either.

I agree about social media. I have closed my LinkedIn account and will not go near Facebook. Thanks for the good advice on that.

+1000000 to this.

I was slowly weening myself from everything until about six weeks ago when I decided to just unfollow anything and everything other than friends who'd I'd talk to in the street if I bumped into them and things I love (football and BMW's).

EVERYTHING else went in the bin.

I don't watch the news, I don't listen to the radio, I don't frequent forums as much as I used to. I listen to BBC 6Music when I'm not listening to playlists and I watch football and/or Netflix in the evening for an hour.

I now play the odd game on my phone (which I haven't done in years), read, detail my cars and take the small wins wherever I can.

I've always accepted the experts should make the decisions and backed our approach to Covid. I accept now is the time to start opening up and understand case numbers will rocket. But as long as hospitals can cope and those who need help can get the help, I'm much happier to not be reading/watching the vitriol being put in front us by the media.

I can't help thinking the last two years has been for nothing. We are seeing now the inundation of the health service that is going to cause chaos for the treatment of all conditions. We have Delta and Omicron in the community and it is going to be hell.

It hasn't been for anything. What we get from Omicron is a fraction of what we would have had from the original strain or Delta.

It's bought us time to get vaccinated and boosted. The impact of Omicron won't be significant compared to what the same outbreak would have been 18 months ago.

It's a shame we didn't do more to prepare, but that belongs in other threads.
