JaseNZ: Pretty sure PBTECH will not be doing online orders, I think they were in talks with the gov re supplying essential services only. I am guessing they will close down the online ordering for the public.

Hi

Just a quick update on my email below.  We have now been fully authorised to service/support and deliver to all Essential businesses.

Our warehouse is fully operational for these deliveries as of Monday.

Thanks for your patience

Subject: Essential business link

Hi

I hope you’re healthy and safe.

Finally things are becoming clearer for us here at PB. We are anticipating MBIE authorising us to open our warehouse, assembly plant, stock to Essential NZ business in the next day or so.

At present we only have clearance from the Ministry of Health to do so for medical customers.  But this will change quickly we assume.

In order for us to know if you are an essential service business we need you to complete this form if you are. Then your order button will come alive again.

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/register-as-an-essential-service

We are reasonably certain that MBIE will not want us to be shipping goods to Non-essential business and retail homes as every touch and worker is a point of risk for us all.

Until we are allowed to open our warehouse to ES businesses we do have another option and that is to ship goods from our supplier warehouses if they have been authorised, and a number of these have.  However stock is pretty low in most instances.  Let me know if you need help with this.

@Handsomedan:

I ordered an electric skateboard for my son's birthday on Tuesday...company in ChCh that I bought it from managed to get it on a courier Wednesday and it has shipped...but PBT tracking hasn't updated since the "in transit to AKL" stage.

i received a courier parcel this morning which was shipped before the lock down, its was a birthday present for my daughter.

i suspect if they have it they will deliver it when they can.

Yeah, the courier turned up about an hour ago.
My son was understandably over the moon as this is his only birthday present and was being saved for alongside any money we and the grandparents tipped in.

Nice to see the smile on his face.

Probably late to the party.
Anyone aware of any companies that do gym equipment leasing/rental during the lockdown?

Hardly essential I would say.

I find it incredible there is even a thread on the topic of "Which stores are open? | Which stores are fulfilling online orders?".

I fear many people don't really understand why we're having this lockdown. Having or attempting to have non essential stuff delivered shows to me some people don't really understand the reason for staying inside your "bubble". To me it means no unnecessary contact with people outside your bubble and minimising the risk of infection by not touching items that may have been touched by a person outside of your bubble who may be infectious.

Obviously we need to be able to shop for food and medication but outside that there needs to be some serious though given to what other contact is acceptable.

Rant over.

I had a nondescript package arrive this morning, and it turned out to be the 'surgical masks' I'd ordered last week via TradeMe.  Debate about how effective they are aside, it was nice to see them.

I guess it depends on your point of view. Do you really want to be running outside?

Specifically starting from 40 seconds.

Essential businesses need to keep running. They require all the everyday stuff any business needs. That certainly is more than food & medicine.

So far as gym equipment goes there are other ways to exercise, in the short term at least, that don't need gym equipment. Go look up 5BX.

I'm sorry I don't get your point about not running outside. Why not run outside? We've been for a walk every day around our neighbourhood and seen runners abiding by the 2 metre rule.

I agree essential businesses need to keep running, that's part and parcel of what I meant when I wrote "but outside that there needs to be some serious thought given to what other contact is acceptable". Common sense needs to be applied.

I think completely the opposite. Because people are wanting to stay in their bubble they are having to look at items delivered to their home to minimize contact with the outside world.

For example now that you can exercise outside and go for walks, you will notice that the footpath doesn't always allow you to maintain the safe 2 meter distance as you pass by. Having a gym at home for me means i can minimize contact with the outside world and make myself and everyone around me safer.

As for touching surfaces the same goes to any foreign surfaces you encounter whether it's your shopping or any other item, i always spray with disinfectant before touching with bare hands.

Couriers are classed as essential services. If a company that relies on distribution is not essential but the owner can work from home - without having to have people going to a warehouse to pack/ship things, then, in theory, they could still use postal/courier services if these can be safely handed over e.g. using a separate place to put the boxes so there's no direct contact.

See my reply just above. It's not essential for sure - you can improvise if you want to exercise. But seeing couriers are still working if there's a case of a home-based distribution business then there's a possibility. What can't happen is companies forcing non-essential employees to go to work in a warehouse for example.

A lot of people (in general, not specifically here on GZ) seem to be forgetting or misunderstanding the entire point of the lockdown - to reduce contact between people to the bare minimum. Hence only essential business (basic food, medicine) and their supply chains being open.

You're pulling my leg aren't you about the 2 metre distance on the footpath?

There is no need to stay on the footpath. In suburban areas at least there is usually more than 2 metres of space between the road frontage fences and the roadway. Failing that there isn't usually any problem to walk or run on the roadway for a few metres. In fact most of the runners we have seen are not running on the footpath but on the side of the roadway facing the on coming traffic. It hasn't been a problem for us to maintain a 2 metre spacing.

As I have already stated there is no need to have a gym at home to maintain some level of physical fitness. Take a look here http://fit450.com/HTML/5BX_Intro.html

You're also forgetting that the country simply cannot fully shut down. There are hundreds of thousands of people right now working from home. This is not a holiday - life and business has to continue and the country has to keep running. Lots of people working from home in many ways are just as important as somebody working in an essential business - they are people keeping the country going.

Finding the balance with services such as couriers is difficult - as we see an increasing number of online booze sales as an example should how should couriers prioritise goods?
