Same here. On boarding issues last night, but logged straight in this morning.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

To maximise take up and effective contact tracing across the country, a single tracing app has to be preferable to many.

Rippl was a great early initiative, but hopefully they will see the overarching health benefit to the country and encourage their users to migrate to the Govt app.

I think being available a bit earlier, without people knowing what to do/how to use it gets in the way - those are the reviews you see in the Google Play Store.

Not much control over how apps appear in the stores, sadly.

Wellington council backed/endorsed ripple early. Free advertising helped that case. 3 month paid contract for anyone else, so high regional uptake and visibility i guess

Simple fact. Anyone who continues to promote or use the Rippl app over the newly-released Govt app is hindering NZs fight against Covid, not assisting it.

Are businesses given any guidance about how the QR codes should be displayed? The last thing I'd want to do is join a huddle of people tying to get their phone to work at the 1 and only poster.

This will take the place of the paper diary I have been using to keep track of where I’ve been and means I don’t need to look for announcements of what commercial premises might be the source of an outbreak.

I am wondering whether NFC could be used in addition to QR codes? I’m not sure whether there would be any increased security risk to your device. If there isn’t increased risk, then to me an NFC tag in is far less hassle than activating my phone’s camera, focusing/framing the QR code and taking the image. Additionally, if I can use the NFC in my smartwatch, even better.

Once we get our sub-dermal chips implanted, things will get even easier...... (/joking).

On Saturday I went to Burger Wisconsin and they had a QR code in the window. I scanned it with my iPhone camera and then it took me to a web page where I had to enter my details. I found that quite straightforward.

So, as I understand it, business will also have QR codes that are intended to be scanned with the new MOH app. How will we know which QR codes are supposed to be scanned with the app, versus those that are supposed to be scanned with the iPhone camera as above? Will most businesses have both? Or will they have just one or the other? Or will the same code work either way?

I know a lot of people on here will consider that to be a dumb question but there will be a lot of non IT savvy people like me who get confused by things like this, and I think that will hinder the uptake.

It is in the FAQ. You use this in addition to the required register businesses must maintain. It's not a replacement - just makes contact tracing faster.

It will make be a lot easier than manually reconciling tracking stored by individual companies. A notification would go out very fast, with instructions on what to do. Then they can start the manual process of looking at data from the businesses.

The initial tracing interview takes four to six hours, I am told. This is because people need to remember which places they visited, etc. The app makes it a lot easier to have this all in one place - surely people can see the value in a single location recorder than in multiple different apps that don't talk to each other.

It would speed up things considerably.

I can't imagine you'll be able to ditch your paper diary any time soon. There will be a multitude of places who won't be on board with the QR codes so you'll still need to keep track of those.

Be great if the app had the ability to create your own notes in it. "I went to Bob's place on Tuesday at 1700, and both Fanny and Dick were there too. Left at 1830".

Although my partial solution at the moment is to just take a photo when I arrive and leave at a place, even of just the floor,

The EXIF has location and time so bingo , its a poor man's diary...
