I think I said yesterday that I would have expected more information on how large stores and shops inside malls would have to operate, but .. nothing.

I must say, as an essential worker I will miss not having to get up so early to get to work and being able to park outside work for free; tomorrow it will be back to getting up earlier, dealing with the traffic and parking a few KM away from work

Yep, nothing. I guess they will wait for L2 to kick in at 11-59pm, but they know the process, they have it ready to go, why not put that on their website so people know now what to expect. Or many will rock up in the morning and just assume its shopping time.

National are opposing the bill to take us down to level two as being "too harsh" - Winston will probably use the "opportunity" to try to broker a deal.

There's a bill? I thought we were still under the State of Emergency? So the rules around L2 will be dictated by the DG of Health?

Just posting this here in case it becomes useful for anybody: There are mobile testing stations in Auckland that can come to you if you are unable to go to them.

I rung Healthline last night asking if we could have a test done at home, as my grandmother is completely bedridden but was told there was no mobile testing stations in Auckland.

With no choice, I had to carry grandma downstairs and reclined her in the car and drive to the nearest drive-thru station and was told that there definitely ARE mobile testing stations in Auckland and sure enough with some digging, I've found them online.

There is some weird miscommunication going on at Healthline as she said that was the first time she ever heard my question.

Interesting paper using empirical data to try and track the economic impact of Covid19:

"Real-Time Economics: A New Platform to Track the Impacts of COVID-19 on People, Businesses, and Communities Using Private Sector Data"

We illustrate the value of the tracker by analyzing the impacts of recent policy decisions in theCOVID-19 crisis, focusing in particular on state shutdowns and re-openings. Perhaps surprisingly,we find these policies have little or no impact on economic activity. The decline in economic activity– consumer spending, the number of small business open, and employment – occurred in most cases before states “shut down,” consistent with other recent work examining data on hours of work and movement patterns. Moreover, we show that recent policies ending these shut-downs in certain states such as Georgia and South Carolina have not been associated with significant increases in economic activity. These findings suggest that the primary barrier to economic activity is the threat of COVID-19 itself as opposed to legislated economic shutdowns.

This definition of "Real-Time" is new to me. But perhaps economists are used to working with lags of months, so relatively speaking, it is realish-time.

You can see the economic tracker here: https://tracker.opportunityinsights.org/. It is US-centric, of course. But interesting to see that immediately the stimulus payments were made (13 April), spending started again, well ahead of non-essential businesses opening. It appears the spending was on health care. Also interesting to see that in some places (e.g. Marion County, SC) there was very little drop in spending. Coincidentally, that's where my brother, a Trump supporter who "couldn't work from home" so went to work anyway, lives.

If I die then put me on ice until Level 1. My estate has been specifically instructed to distribute my bequests in the form of mash potato-topped mince pies and other barely room-temperature savories at my wake and I would hate anyone to miss out.

"Someone" was always responsible for health and safety - the PCBU operating the funeral home or church.
