Batman:

D Trump has been taking hydroxychloroquine for a "few weeks"

If that "doesn't work" and he gets it - maybe he'll do the world a favour and drink bleach / inject disinfectant.

Some of the side effects of hydroxychloroquine include emotional lability, nervousness, irritability, nightmares, psychosis, suicidal behaviour. This could explain the recent increase in his irrational thinking regarding Covid-19, China, Obama, and just about every other thing on earth in the Solar system and universe prior, now and forever.

So, in this information based Health thread, you both just can’t stay away from the politics. You in particular Fredd99, perpetuating a myth and suggesting someone (anyone, even someone you hate) should drink or inject bleach is unethical and a breach of FUGs.

The ‘Orange Man Bad’ thread is in the politics forum where it belongs. I suggest that’s the appropriate place for these comments.

As above. Leave the politics out of this thread.

Social Distancing has gone out of the window from my observations in Dunedin; and then don't get me started on this joke of making the main street a "shared space" with cars and thinking that cars will slow down to 10km/hr

Batman:

A beneficial side-effect for the President that we should keep an eye out for:

Blue–grey pigmentation of the skin affects up to 25% of patients taking hydroxychloroquine.

China has 5 potential vaccines in phase 2 (human) clinical trials.

They've also supported the WHO motion to investigate the source of C-19, pledged $2 billion to support the fight against the disease, and pledged that if they produce a vaccine they'll make it universally available.

No serious side effects have been reported yet among phase II patients, said Zeng (vice minister of the NHC), adding that more vaccine candidates will be approved to go into human trials in June.

Covid-19 vaccine development and deployment in China, when available, will be made a global public good, which will be China’s contribution to ensuring vaccine accessibility and affordability in developing countries, Xi said via video

That's probably because Dr Bloomfield and other experts have been telling us that there's a very low risk of community transmission in NZ at the moment. But there's no excuse for breaking the social distancing rules, the experts think we need them despite the very low new confirmed cases of the virus.

The experts KNOW we need it, the masses THINK they know better/she'll be right, mate

I think it's a minority view - not really "the masses".  From what I've seen most people seem to be taking it (distancing) seriously/responsibly.

Doesn't take much to undermine it for some though, some "influential people" need to zip it - and the media need to fact check the claims and report that very clearly.

The infectious disease medical specialists certainly know more than the masses who are a bit casual over social distancing, but these medical experts don't always agree with each other as evidenced, for example, by the more liberal approach taken by Sweden over Covid-19.

And the NZ experts don't always agree with each other either. So, it's not a black and white situation, there are lots of judgmental areas and shades of grey, not the least of which is the legitimate calls from business owners to lighten up the rules as soon as possible. As has been mentioned on this forum many times, we face two major crises in NZ, the virus vs the economy, and it's an incredibly difficult balancing act to keep both medical people and business people happy!

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-taking-hydroxychloroquine-coronavirus-vaccine-medicine-a9521151.html

If it's being administered by a non-quack doctor - and given that he's had a string of quacks in the past that may not be the case - one would assume they'd administer a way sub-therapeutic dose so he gets to use his miracle medicine without it posing any danger to him, sort of like you give a three-year-old a plastic steering wheel so they can "drive" the car alongside mummy and daddy.
