The Government is suspending all compassionate exemptions at the border.

It would only be reinstated once the Government had confidence in the system.

Health Minister David Clark announced the move after two women who travelled from the United Kingdom, tested positive for Covid-19, after being given a compassionate exemption to leave a managed isolation facility.

JaseNZ:Except if you are making a movie 😜

At least the movie crew did the full quarantine here, as well as before they left home.

rugrat: Imports and exports are safe. Virus can only live for so long without host.
Anything that no one has touched for 3 days should be safe, and I believe with cardboard 12 hours.
It’s only incoming people who are the greatest risks.

If filling hotels with overseas people is the greatest priority then business that thrive on NZ customers will suffer.

I think it's Kiwis and residents.

I was referring to government trying to open boarders to help the industries that rely on overseas tourist money. To bad about industries that social distancing hurts. Places that need crowed events, production efficiency’s lost when workers have to keep distance from each other.

They can’t Even do returning NZers properly.

Governmental Corona Warning App (by SAP and Telekom) has been rolled out this morning in Germany after exhaustive tests and in accordance to strict privacy requirements after API implementations in the OS by Google and Apple. We'll see how it will support us from now to prevent COVID spreading.

edit: It works decentral based on "keys" only stored on the devices for 14 days (no central servers). Bluetooth is used for distance and time (no location) dependent contact tracing (not tracking!).

In short: If someone is confirmed tested positive, all possible close contacts (in terms of distance and duration) will be anonymously informed with a computed potential risk factor to be able to take self isolation measures.

Ok, but the travel bubbles won't have quarantine, so I didnt assume you meant that.

Are there issues with returning NZers? These sisters were given exemption to leave quarantine. Is that and other issues happening regularly with returning Kiwis? Not seen that in the media, not that Ive scanned for it

There is bound to be one more case at least. The person these two had close contact with. And I wonder how many people that person had contact with. After all we were down to level 1 when they got together.

I also wonder how all the people who could not visit their dying relatives in hospital or go to their funerals because we were locked down feel about this appalling blunder.

A silver lining for many here, myself included, is that this will add an extra barrier to travel bubbles. I do support a Pacific bubble, as this places both parties at extremely low risk, and the Island's can use it. If that did happen and AUS joined, that would scuttle the Islands again. Too much risk for them probably. Unless NZ played a role.

I don't see it quite that way. MoH dropped the ball, now they will test before letting anyone out. Health Minister has at least shut it down. I watched the feed, my take was that they planned to travel solo, so they let them go due to extremely low risk, probably under pressure , but no excuse.

I don't get why the media and a few interviewed, mentioned the risk to the quarantine centre and the incoming flight. If we are letting people in from any country we will bring in the virus, that's why quarantine is there

I'm a bit pee'd and disappointed in today's outcome. I'm all for opening the board's but only to countries that have no cases for a month. Sure it sucks if you have sick ones in other countries but there is zoom etc. We can't go back into level 3 or 4 again as that will just stuff us and more jobs will go.

We just can't afford a mistake.

No

Or you could add context. We were getting up to 89 cases a day, we had daily breaches of the various lockdowns, yet starting from nothing,  we have now had 3 weeks of nothing, cases wise. Today doesnt mean we actually did have cases. Dr A let them out in error.

Yes, its a pity. But something has been tightened, so a gain there.

We've had daily reports of issues with the quarantining processes. Lots of changes on the fly, probably more than many people are comfortable with.

Auckland-Welly is ~650Km, and the DG of Health basically said they "Sh*t in the woods"

And if anyone believes that, I have a bridge to sell them. This exemption should never have been granted. The MoH is increasingly showing itself up as a joke -- the decision-making is capricious (contrast the ludicrous permissiveness with the utterly lawlessness and cruelty they exhibited in the Christiansen case) and processes are loose. The latter has been consistently alluded to by people who have witnessed things like dodgy isolation practices at hotels and so forth.
