We've had daily reports of issues with the quarantining processes. Lots of changes on the fly, probably more than many people are comfortable with.

Daily, so every day pretty much. Im aware of the core issues, as our pandemic plan wasn't meant for this, neither was our fragmented heath system.So, during this 23 odd days of no new cases, every day there are quarantine problems reported in the media?

Looks like the MoH is doing a terrific job

A guest at the same hotel [as the two confirmed cases from the UK] – who was also in quarantine – told Television New Zealand that she had not been tested before she left the facility. Those in quarantine are meant to receive Covid-19 swabs on the third and 12th days of their 14-day isolation period.

“I have asked the Director General to consider if there are any other measures we can put in place to strengthen our health protections at the border,” Clark, the health minister, said.

After both women tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, one reported that in hindsight she had been experiencing symptoms, but had attributed them to a pre-existing medical condition.

So Bloomfield's softly BS about how those two women had done everything that one could ask of them has yet again been revealed to be just the horse manure that it is. The MoH seems determined to be on the side of people threatening the sacrifices of millions of people.

It is almost impossible to state how I feel about this total shambles without breaking the FUG. This was absolutely avoidable and threatens to make all the sacrifices and hardship a complete waste. Maybe Bloomfield is burnt out or other but he needs to be relieved of duties and a new leadership installed urgently.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

@Fred99 I drove from Auckland (North Shore) to Wellington (CBD) on a single tank of gas in a new Commodore about 2003 and I only stopped once to Pee on the side of the road

Fuel light was no even on when I arrived in Wellington CBD

I understand the anger but I'd suggest everyone gives it a day or two to calm down then reflect on what's happened.

New Zealand has done very well but inevitably screw ups happen. There will be definitely be more. It's almost unavoidable.

The point of multi level management systems is to deal with the screw ups.

Bloomfield and the MoH were never as good as some people made them out to be and I don't doubt they aren't as bad as some people feel they are. It's just people and good people consistently do dumb things.

No really, and the ghosts are here to stay as the eclectic restaurant works to reopen.

...The staff had been used to a bustling bar and restaurant though, so to manage the empty and the quiet, a bartender had an idea.

Ghosts.

Matt Labarge, who's owned Sputnik for 16 years, said one of the bartenders had an idea during the shutdown, to fill up some of the booths with ghosts so that the place wouldn't feel so empty.

“It oddly feels nice to have, like even though they’re not real people, just some kind of presence in the bar,” Labarge said.

One of those ghosts sits at the bar every day and reads. A few more enjoy drinks in a nearby booth.

My problem isn't with the screwups per se but the ongoing lack of thinking, reflexive BS telling, and overall bad attitude that is being demonstrated by the bureaucrats at MoH. In light of what the Guardian article just told us about one of the two women, it's indefensible for Bloomfield to keep running PR on their behalf as being noble and responsible citizens. This is just one example of many where in the face of patent and contrary realities, Bloomfield and the MoH just keeps spinning.

Now undoubtedly some of those efforts are attempts to deflect and protect his own but this again speaks to an attitude problem. It's not my place to detail what my wife has told me about her experiences have been in terms of her hospital's dealings/coorddination with the MoH on COVID (she's on her hospital's emergency management team) but let's just say I am pretty alarmed by what I was told and what they say about the character of some of the bureaucrats at MoH.

Was reading about this a few weeks back very interesting stuff. They don't sniff out the virus as per say but the change in scent in the armpits that occurs when the virus is present. I liked the bit where one dog indicated positive one of the people that had been tested negative. When they retested the person they found they were positive. Friken dogs man amazing animals.

When any sort of screw up is a seen as a firing offence the spin doctors take over. Politics as usual is to deny any screw up is a screw up as then it becomes part of a narrative.

NZ is very firmly in politics as usual territory now.

'12 days seems too long to first test. Lets make it 3. And then when they are released to sure they are negative before freedom, mkkaayyy'

ooops. Shame that come in 3 days after the fact.

Last week Bloomfield introduced changes to border measures, including a test on day three and on day 12 of quarantine/managed isolation.

The testing on day three had not been implemented in time for the women's managed isolation, Bloomfield said.

Yep. It's not a systemic issue. While the MoH has to wear it as does the Govt, some employee didn't follow protocol. As a quarantined resident stated in a media comment, linked earlier, the processes are certainly there and being actioned. Whoever managed the sisters, didnt.

UK + 3 international flights + request for exemption.

The MoH didnt make the first bad decision here.
