Ok, but the travel bubbles won't have quarantine, so I didnt assume you meant that.

Are there issues with returning NZers? These sisters were given exemption to leave quarantine. Is that and other issues happening regularly with returning Kiwis? Not seen that in the media, not that Ive scanned for it

As well as the exemptions I posted a link a few pages back with a hotel having guests interact with each other at different stages of the quarantine. Some even had outside quests visiting them. How hard is it to stop people going in the door?
They are getting rid of the exemptions now, but it pretty obvious that exemptions was a big hole.
I just referred to hotels as under time pressure previous post, but there seems to be big political pressure to do boarders without quarantine and if things are not done right in both countries another disaster:

Wonder whoever managed the sisters and the manager who approves the compassionate exemption will be sack now since they & the sisters become most hate persons in the country.
But I do hope they still keep their job and get a warning. Really hope to have 31 days 0 cases but it's ok, didn't expect 0 cases to stay long at all unless there's vaccine which won't be happen anytime soon.

The risk will always be there when planes coming into the country unless NZ going to stop all planes and allow cargo planes or passenger planes without passenger with just cargo into the country only.

The media are a funny beast.  The number of heart string tugging stories they are running on not being given exemptions to enter, and then flick the switch and back on the "how could you let this happen" train.  What the MoH is learning the hard way its hard to have it both ways.

In fairness to MoH the judicial ruling overruling theMoH quarantine likely lead to what has happened here.  That judge I would argue made a non medically considered decision that that now the MoH cannot just ignore and have to consider.

One question I have around the testing is whether by law the actually can force someone to undergo the procedure?  Only special powers would allow this, so does the TVNZ article just show what the realities of the situation are, people decline so then after their time frame they are released.

These women did nothing wrong. Yeah right.

UK + 3 international flights + request for exemption.

The MoH didnt make the first bad decision here.

I agree with you.

I had to attend my fathers funeral today via Facetime.

Hearing the news of these two muppets from the UK did not help the situation, I can tell you that.

The responsible thing to do at the moment is to not travel.

The travel itself adds risk of getting and spreading the virus, and having family members that are at risk I would not want to add extra risk of them getting Covid-19 by traveling through areas where I could get in contact with someone that have it.

I'm sad to hear of your dads passing. I hope you and your family are doing ok otherwise.

I've had a member of my extended family, who we are close to, go through a similar time and it was very difficult. Please make sure you get support if you need it, grief affects people differently.

Air NZ resuming flights to China. They claim border controls on both sides mitigates the risk. Really? yeah right!!!

And a second wave in China looks very high risk https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/world/china-coronavirus-second-wave-risk-very-high-says-beijing-official/ar-BB15y7zb

Certainly getting very concerned. It is like we are trying to find ways to get the virus back into the country, when the processes shown up today failed. NZers deserve far better than this from our officials.

I wonder if it is is part of our 'she'll be right' attitude, and possible complacency. Or that theory that ' it will never happen in NZ because NZ is different'.

We had been assured that the borders were 'watertight'. This implies that all risks have been mitigated. Yes, we may detect cases a the border, but those cases can't then get into the community. A pretty serious hole here that allowed this to happen, and at least the health minister has acknowledged this. Also there was mention of some other people who had been granted exemption, and they ran away after the funeral. There wasn't much in the media about this, but I saw it mentioned on TV3 tonight.

I think it is pretty simple, no exemptions whatsoever. We can't even trust people to self isolate, because some people won't. At least these two sound like they did the right things, and were sensible. But many people aren't.

I dont think so re complacency. A quarantinee stated that they get checked all the time. The hole here is someone at ground level didnt follow protocol. The ones that ran away, well, if we cant trust people then we should assume everyone will play up, as we have seen, thousands of them here as well during the lockdowns

To ensure the employees which I assume are health workers follow the protocol, maybe they need to be taken off that role if thay cannot fulfill it as happened here. As regards the flouters, we need to assume everyone will flout and put in place a full lockup and no exemptions. I dont see why this was exempted, but Dr A did say its now Level 1. Zero exemptions needs to apply from now. Although take the film people. 14 days there, 14 days here, tested negative when they left the US, that seems pretty watertight to me

are you sure there was actually a protocol to follow (for compassionate exemption)? withdrawn within a few hours suggests no protocol.

Its been stated there are protocols, they get checked often, they get checked when leaving, supposed to get tested before leaving, they were let out with no test and no checks "I have issues but it must be my existing issues" thats what failed. tested = failed. Check for symptoms, had symptoms but still let go. Rules are no use if the ground zero staff dont follow them

But if you prefer to suggest that there are zero protocols in place, fill your boots

JaseNZ:Except if you are making a movie 😜

At least the movie crew did the full quarantine here, as well as before they left home.

Actually, they did 8 days self-isolation in the USA, according the interview with the producer.
