However with the update of iOs to 14.5 on my iPhone X the app is now crashing - opening screen flashes briefly and then gone.

This is the first time I have not been able to use the app - guess it will be pen and paper until there is a fix.

Is this the beta? I had seen a previous report of this but it was affecting a lot of apps (YouTube, MS Teams, etc.) so it wasn't specific to NZCT.

Yes the beta - best avoided at this point if you want the COVID app to function.

I have had no other apps crash or problems that I have noticed.

Same for me on an iPhone 7 with the iOS 14.5 beta, just noticed it crashing on opening like how morrisk reported.  Had tried to load it up this morning when going out to eat, but found it'd just crash. Back to the manual recording for a bit.

Right. So Android version is force closing on first open too.

Subsequently seems to be OK. I think

And back to google play services cooking the phone and draining battery (BT notification off)

And in the new subversion Bluetooth Tracing is now available for iOS12.5 (unannounced, but some reports of people with iPhone 6 devices now able to activate it).

I deleted what I wrote, got it working. An update for the Covid Applic came out on 3/2, and I haven't updated it yet.

I have been scanning pretty much everywhere I go for the last few months, and today was the first day that the app has failed on me. I was disembarking from the train tonight and I usually scan the QR code as I leave, but this time the app got stuck on the opening splash screen.

After a five minute walk home from the railway station I opened the app again and it seemed to be working again. I'm guessing it might have been doing some sort of syncing or updating while it was unresponsive, but if that were the case then it really should show some sort of advisory message rather than just the splash screen.

@yann @morrisk You can use the Rippl app in the meantime if you would prefer to Scan QR codes still. Its a lot quicker than the official app to scan and also has a "check out" function which is quite handy for recording how long you were at places - I believe they share with the Ministry Of Health so you will still get alerts if needed, only downside is that it doesn't have the Bluetooth functionality, but is a good replacement until the fix the normal app on 14.5

Thanks -  will look at doing that. The MoH have responded to my email indicating that they are aware of the problem and note that other apps have also been affected. They suggest reverting back to iOs 14.4. I have looked at reverting but this involves a restore of my phone and I would rather not do that.

Same issue. All of my devices running the developer beta of iOS 14.5 do not seem to be compatible with the tracer app.

I've contacted the MOH for the possibility of an update to resolve this problem, unless of course it's an issue with iOS itself.

I am using the Rippl app while waiting for a fix to either iOs or the COVID-19 app. It at least allows me to keep up my habit of scanning everywhere and does provide me wth a dairy of where I have been. I assume however it does have the alert notification function that the COVID-19 app has.

I am not sure whether the bluetooth function of the COVID-19 app is still working in the background even though the scanning function is not working - hopefully it might be.

Can QR codes be scanned from the back ?

I saw a woman enter a shop and try to scan the code from the other side of the window.

🤨

Yes

I have done it myself, at a place where the bright sunlight reflecting off the glass makes the QR code difficult to read from in front!

We like statstics right?

MoH provide the data in a ~6 month bracket that you can chuck into Excel and produce pivots and so on.

So did exactly that. Might be a bit of a lag for reporting for yesterday. Or the mad rush to the supermarket didn't make anyone zap it further.

Interesting relation between registered vs scanning.

The big dip in active users on the 5th of February looks a bit weird.
