antonknee:Yes same, although I am in the habit of scanning the QR code at work now. I think there would be a lot of people who might only get a scan every second day or so? Especially at level 3 where I actually have not left the house except for a walk around the block.
Warning for people thinking of going to iOS 14.5 beta.
I did the updated to the beta last night so my apple watch could unlock the phone when i am wearing a mask. However this now crashes the covid NZ app. Have uninstalled and reinstalled but still get the crash.

My Covid App seems to have a long delay of several seconds after launching app before the screen allows you to snap a QR code. I click on the app to scan a code and there is this long wait with just the Health Dept Logo and then it clears the screen and I can scan. It doesn't do this every time. but often enough to be annoying for the people behind me also wanting to scan. The wait is around 5+ seconds. Any thoughts?
Same on my Xiaomi Note 7. Takes quite a while, which feels extra long when you're at the front of the queue for the QR code!

Ditto on my Nokia 6.1. From memory the MOH logo always used to flash up momentarily but as of 2-3 updates ago it does take 5+ seconds. I think if the app's been used recently it's still in the phone's memory hence no splash screen sometimes but if not it has to cold load the app. I'm getting better with loading the app before I get to the destination.

I'm sorry but what did you expect. Unless you are testing for your job of course. We are talking about a government department which I would hope belongs to the Apple and Android developer programs.
Besides OS 14.5 beta 1 came out on Feb 4th with beta 2 yesterday. Give the MoH IT a chance to find out what they don't know so they can beta test then update the Tracer app. The GM wont be released till after the iOS 14.5 GM.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
The iOS 14.5 beta 2 (currently on the dev track, hopefully public beta soon) reportedly resolves the crash on boot error for NZ COVID Tracer (and other React Native-based apps that use a common library).

I know a bit about the NZ COVID Tracer app, but I don't work for Ministry of Health
Ooook.
So the crew on 1 just told the nation watching that according to Nigel latta, the 'finish' button on scan. Is there to indicate you are finished at that location and used as a clock-out time.
Errrr.. first I've heard. And if wrong. Well, that's a little oopsy

Yep first I've heard of that too. Raised my eyebrows when I heard Hillary say that.
If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

Had the same exp, on most occations, with the COVID tracer app (Xiaomi Mi9se). Got into the routine of opening the app before heading to the store which seemed to increase the scanning speed. If I failed, then it would
a) feel like it takes ages to load
b) take forever to regitster the QR
On some occations, I would give up and walk away, and then next time I look at my phone, I would see that the app had logged the code in the background... strangeness.... Having upgraded to the S21, I no longer have seen this problem.
In the Tracer App diary there is only one field for time, no entry for an exit time.
Delete cookies?! Are you insane?!
I am mildly curious if there has been an increase in the number of insurance claims for dropped phones.
The number of times i've nearly dropped mine getting it in and out of my handbag, its got to happen eventually.

Which is part reason we are all scratching heads, going where the hell does that theory come from. Let alone to publicly announce it without fact checks

This is definitely wrong. NZ COVID Tracer does not record the "sign-out" time and pushing the Finish button just closes the confirmation screen and goes back to the camera. MOH decided that sign-out times would be used too inconsistently and would lead to poor data quality, and it's more reliable to just interview the person and get the details of what they were doing, and then estimate the time spent from there (because inevitably, even if you had recorded that you were there for say 30 mins, the contact tracer would want to extend it anyway to be safe).
My working theory is that maybe Nigel Latta was using Rippl, which does prompt the user for a sign-out time. A big whoops from Seven Sharp, but Hilary Barry at least now knows that she made a mistake so I'm hoping they will do a correction tomorrow.
