Sadly I'm still finding the Android QR scanner to be quite poor at picking up the QR codes. Not uncommon for me to try and try and try (even restarting the app, walking back and forth, trying all the different angles) whereas my hubby's iPhone will scan just fine on the very first try, every single time. Certainty a good advertisement for Apple!

Interesting - as mentioned before sometimes I don't even pause in front of the poster as it scans from a distance and I don't break stride. Using a Huawei P30 Pro.

The P20 non pro was lightning fast from a distance too. Right up until the 2nd or 3rd fix release.

Then it went to pooze while the rest of the high-end cameras kept trucking on.

It was as if it was suddenly lumped me into a group of lower tier or 2 lens models that they forced a deeper error correction check or update to ensure read and thus slower processing.

I've posted here a few times about cache or reinstall attempts to try and sort it to no avail.

I'm not currently having any trouble at all with actual scanning, and usually seems to scan before I've finished bringing the phone up to the level of the QR code, and while I'm still walking towards it. Occasionally though, I've had to wait a few seconds for the app to finish opening, and this seems to be more likely if I've just used the app in the last few minutes. Samsung Galaxy S10+

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Yeah looking at others comments there is a few things at play. I suffer from both on occasion.

1. Scan Delay

This seems to vary by device. P20 Wasn't great, update made it lightning fast, then went to the dogs after later updates in a step backwards (making use of the 2nd lens or BW filtering?). Almost like it was taking a video and needing to do some sampling of each frame to get a good scan.

2. Open delay.

Seems to vary on use, times the QR has been scanned previous. Or online/offline state. Not sure if it's kicking off a BT key check on open if it meets a timer for not phoning home or something? or flushing the old ones. I've just gotten into habit of opening as I get out of the car now and have it on standby

Thanks for the feedback. There is a new version coming this week which should reduce the launch delay.

We have been and continue to look at the scan delay with Rush and we are working on it but is tricky due to the wide device support requirements. One thing we know is that people get too close to the QR codes, which can make it slower.

/thumbsup/

I took a bit more notice today, and it may not be anything if others don't confirm or check themselves. The first time opening for the day at first location seemed to take on the upper scale. And then the subsequent ~5-10 later wasn't as bad.

First of day history log rollover checks?

In fact, with it in my hand now. After opening the dashboard for a sanity check, It's gone silly fast suddenly. Bonus! :)

I wish the app could be used without unlocking my phone.

Ok, the app is live on Google Store, so here is a list of changes:

  • Personal metrics on the dashboard – showing how many days out of the past 14 you have made at least one diary entry (scan or manual)
  • National statistics on the dashboard – showing how much New Zealanders are using the app
  • A flashlight for scanning in low light conditions – useful for the winter months ahead
  • Users can see which location an alert related to in their diary
  • We can now display public health announcements on the dashboard
  • From the dashboard users can easily find a COVID-19 Test location.
  • Speed up load time on Android

I like the prompt about days scanned, but I generally have the app open on the scanning page, so will probably never see it

I am interested in the 'all time app registrations' measure. Does this genuinely reflect the number of people who have the app installed? Or could people be double counted if they install the app, then reinstall after upgrading their phone?

I also wondered about people with multiple devices. I can imagine people with work and personal phones for example.
