Then i would be staying at home to be safe.  But if you know you get hayfever you also know that you can get meds for it (i had it bad for the first 20 years of my life in whanganui when i was living there).

And that is the point I am making. No one here can say for sure that the person does not suffer from Asthma or Hay Fever as examples. Therefore folks pilling on with only a glimpse of information just shouldn't.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Sums it up perfectly. It winds me up, so I'm bowing out for a couple of days until the social media burning-at-the-stake of this woman passes.

"A woman from the family travelled to Rotorua last weekend - even with symptoms."

If we are a team of 5 million, this person deserves whatever the equivalent of a Red Card is.

There needs to be punishment to deter people from doing this: the consequences are simply too expensive and disruptive to just give people a ticking off.

I understand the sentiment, but punishing people is going to make others reluctant to come forward.

From my understanding they were part of a household that came forward and were tested on Monday with the results coming through on Tuesday - excuse me if I got the timeline slightly wrong.

There is a good chance that there are others, perhaps in the same workplace or maybe a source closer to the border that had some symptoms earlier.

We should be thankful that members of this family got tested when they did and we didn't have to wait for the virus to travel 3-4 steps further down the chain. I hope it isn't already 3-4 steps down the chain from the source.

I disagree. Everyone knows (or should've known for years) that if you have flu/cold symptoms you should not go to work, etc. And yet you'd usually see people sneezing, coughing, etc because their work is "too important" and they couldn't take a day off because "I will get behind" or "boss/others will think I am not working hard enough".

Unfortunately , the NZ attitude is come to work even if you are sick with cold/flu . If you can get up & walk, go to work attitude .

Pre-covid , Ive been TOLD by my previous employer to come into work even though I had a really bad flu infection  (throat so sore I had trouble talking , really unwell)
Sick employees coming to work & infecting the rest of us wasnt at all uncommon.

Even post covid, Ive been at various workplaces where Ive seen people who were sick (mild flu/cold symptoms) & should not have been there & didnt get sent home.

This will probably be my final word on this as I fear a wrongly worded post could see me exit. I maybe naïve but until I am reasonably shown otherwise yes I do trust people. What I dislike is the form of social bullying that these times bring and it angers me. Yes I am triggered about bully I have been the target of bullying and my son was badly bullied when at school. The piling on that is done against victims and yes this person is a victim of Covid 19 in the press and social media is a vey unpleasant form of social bullying as the victim has no recourse.

That's pretty poor, and I fear not all that uncommon.

Another issue we have here is Sick leave is pretty tight. You have a sniffle, but not a full on cold. You don't want to take a day off your sick leave (or you have already used your 5 days).

Maybe something that could come out of this in the washup is that sick leave needs to be looked at. Along the lines of either doubling it or letting it accumulate more than 20 days.

I don't see a need to pile on but equally these idiots need to be recognised as what they are. These are unprecedented times and there are numerous warnings everywhere about how you shouldn't enter/travel if you are displaying symptoms of cold/flu/Covid. The consequences of an outbreak is catastrophic and ethical people need to start acting with an abundance of cautious and resolve things in favour of community health and public interest, instead of what is merely personally convenient.

Yep, the Govt and MoH have a relatively minor role, setting guidelines and plans. They dont execute it, we do, its all meaningless if we dont play ball.

Knowing that a second wave of Covid was always possible, I would've thought that people who are feeling sick would take the initiative and go get tested, for peace of mind at least.

I was in Queenstown a fortnight ago and came back with a sore throat, headache, and runny nose.

Drove to local Covid testing station in Hamilton, filled out the form, got the test, drove off. 30 minutes all up. Three days later got the text saying 'negative'.

*In saying that, I work from home, so it's a lot easier for me to deal with sick leave, isolation etc.

The government is blaming Vodafone for the issues with the alert system.

I am not getting in to a debate about whether people behaved responsibly by in keeping with the Tech nature of this board

I was watching the live stream on my Pixel 4XL on Vodafone last night and didn't get the message. But my Motorola Z2 on 2D got the message but it was entitled Presidential Message!

In the morning my Pixel got the message (so the Vodafone change documented above might have been fixed then) but this time it said Emergency Alert. Not sure if the Moto Z got it since it was turned off.

After this settles , Employers should be held accountable and heavily fined if they allow sick employees to carry on working, possibly infecting other staff and customers with flu .
Pre covid , Ive been sent out to clients premises while still sick/infectious . Yep , spread it around .

Attitudes need to change. That will require heavy fines .
