I would say it is much more likely they want to be absolutely sure of the information before telling the general public.

I have no issue with the information they are giving.

Bloomfield did say as such, but also mentioned they would let the businesses know first before making it public. Presumably this is to get further details, and also to give the business an opportunity to let their team etc know.

antonknee:

Bloomfield saying no close contacts from the Rotorua visit - however family visited a number of locations. Businesses being confirmed and notified first, before further details are made public. Family evidently visited Skyline (gondola and luge) and Heritage Farm apparently. For now, Rotorua staying at alert level 2.

I am guessing then that they didn't have symptoms at the time they visited, as I understand it is less likely to spread if someone doesn't have symptoms. eg If someone isn't coughing then they are less likly to infect others who come in close contact with the droplets in the air or on surfaces.

Meanwhile the NZ Herald publishes this kind of bullshit, legitimising the message:

Destiny Church bishop Brian Tamaki has told his followers they should take to the streets if the New Zealand Government announces an extension to the current three-day lockdown in effect in Auckland.

Speaking outside his church in South Auckland, across the road from a Covid-19 testing station, Tamaki said "there's another virus just as bad as Covid-19, it's called fear".

At one point during the video, the bishop draws attention to a plane up in the sky, saying he thinks it's coming from China, "probably filled with non-English speaking people coming into our borders".

He pointed the finger at the Government who he says is telling New Zealanders to close their front doors while keeping the borders open to "immigrants, refugees still, and people from countries where this Covid-19 pandemic has been very active".

"I wanna say something: This has gone too far," he says.

What a load of crap.

A plane filled of non-English speaking people from China will likely have no active cases, Whereas a Plane from the US/UK/Europe will likely be full of it...

This guy makes Trump look bright....

We have had two months in level 1 to get this sorted, and people using the app, as the government has said for a long time that we will be getting more community cases. If all stores had this up and inplace, and a TV education campaign had been used showing everyone how to use it, then far more people would have adopted it. Businesses shouldn't need a week, it is a job that takes no more than 15 minutes at https://qrform.tracing.covid19.govt.nz/

it was never going to end Friday, if it was like the last lockdown then it will be a least 14 days of no new cases before going down a level.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I see Hell Pizza have just announced ...

"We have decided to put the safety of our staff and customers first, and adhere to Level 3 restrictions for ALL HELL stores in New Zealand"

I wonder if they are onto something ?
It would not surprise me in the least if the whole country goes to L3 by Friday

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/122422576/tick-tick-podcast-modelling-suggests-covid19-outbreak-could-include-up-to-two-dozen-cases

Short story long: If you have enough volume of cases to generate enough symptomatic cases to get referrals for testing, then you have way more than a handful of cases. Exactly as some people have been speculating here - by the time we *know* about it, it's already got a week or two's head-start.

to have some stability in their business, and lay off some staff in the process.

it's very difficult to move between levels back and forth

Yeah i'm reading that too, but I would have thought air-freight was a low risk... more likely an interaction between cold store staff and someone transporting the goods rom airside....who may have  had an interaction with international aircrew...?

Do cargo jets bring their own loadmasters? or do they let host airport staff manage the loading....

The virus on cardboard will die in 24 hours, as the protective sac dries out as the cardboard absorbs the moisture. Plastic is a bit longer as that needs natural drying. Frozen I read somewhere that it could last for yonks. So, it may stay viable on ships or aircraft.

100%

If they gave an insight, a possibility, then the clickbait train and Chinese Whispers causes a lot of worthless comms in social media. That they instituted a lockdown, goes a long way to stemming more spread. Then get the facts, and push forward.

From DailyFX:

WHAT DOES DOVISH MEAN?

When central bankers are talking about reducing interest rates ...they are said to be dovish. If central bankers are pessimistic about economic growth and expect inflation to decrease or become deflation and they signal this to the market through their projections or forward guidance, they are said to be dovish about the economy.

New York Times: New Zealand Central Bank Expands Bond-Buying, Warns of Negative Rates as Nation Locks Down Again

New Zealand's central bank surprised markets on Wednesday by expanding its bond-buying programme and warned that policy rates might have to go below zero to revive the coronavirus-battered economy as the country was plunged back into lockdown.

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand expanded its large scale asset purchase (LSAP) programme... It left interest rates at an all-time low of 0.25%, as widely expected.

Underlining policymakers' readiness to step-up support, the RBNZ said it is also actively considering a package of additional monetary tools, including negative interest rates and low-cost funding to banks....

In response to the central bank's statement, the New Zealand dollar slipped 0.5% to US $0.6540.

The central bank's dovish tone comes as New Zealand re-introduced mobility restrictions earlier in the day...

...The RBNZ stunned markets with a 0.75% cut in March as the coronavirus surfaced in the country, but has since left it unchanged.

The pandemic jolted the economy into its worst slump in nearly three decades in the first quarter...

Recent data had indicated that the economic impact of the pandemic was not as dire as first feared, with unemployment rates falling, inflation seen picking up and the housing market being resilient.

All the same, the Auckland virus cluster has heightened the uncertainty about the outlook...
