If these idiots in Parliament still won't pass a law that mandates jail or, at a minimum, crippling levels of fines for lockdown breaches and knowing travel whilst displaying symptoms, then really they might as well just take a hike.

It would not surprise me if that happened considering the previous idiot in charge took a bike ride during the last lock down.  From the new ones web page "An outdoor enthusiast, Chris is particularly keen on mountain biking, tramping and swimming".

QR code now mandatory to be displayed by all businesses... but they have a week to comply..... doesn't sound like its going to end on Friday :)

Friday was a breathing space not an end. By Friday they want to say it will be 7 days or 9.67 days or 13 days, too soon right now to know IMO. They could have played safe and said 14 days then it turns out only the initial 4 are the issue. Over reaction. They don't know yet.

This guy should receive a visit from the police. He intentionally left Auckland, then called the paper to say "... drove south over the Bombay Hills at about 1pm, planning to sit out Auckland's level 3 lockdown at his parents' place in New Plymouth. "I was surprised that there were no roadblocks and I didn't even see any cops on the road," he said."

"Williams said he normally lives in Ponsonby but decided to escape to New Plymouth, despite level 3 restrictions requiring him to stay at home, because "it could be good to be away from the lockdown". "I feel it's likely to be going to be weeks, if not more," he said. "The messaging we are getting from Government about lockdown is that we are looking at two-week cycles. "I head back about once a month to New Plymouth. I'll be working remotely. I'm a business analyst.""

Oh, that's ok then. He's a business analyst, that makes all right.

We cancelled. The Sofitel gave us full credit, as did Air NZ. It seemed wisest to defer rather than risk being stuck down there or whatever.

Wife not very happy about it but grudgingly accepting!

New Scientist: "We don't know how accurate the UK's new rapid coronavirus tests are

Two 90-minute tests for the coronavirus will be rolled out by the UK government in the coming weeks – and while both are promising, neither has publicly available data to support its use. Other independently verified rapid tests have been developed, say scientists who have been assessing the field.

Last week, the UK government announced that the two tests will, between them, provide more than 6 million coronavirus assessments to individuals at care homes and National Health Service hospitals across the UK.

But while the companies behind both tests say they have validated their accuracy, the details haven’t been published.

“I’d never heard of these two tests,” says Jon Deeks at the University of Birmingham, UK, who has been comparing the evidence behind a range of rapid tests to diagnose covid-19....

Maybe Business Analysts are immune, or dumb

Oldmanakbar: I would say it is much more likely they want to be absolutely sure of the information before telling the general public. I have no issue with the information they are giving.

It rather worries me that Brownlee and Collins are actually implying that "we are not being told all" for political reasons.

In a pandemic the deliberate attempt to lower trust in what we are told is a very dangerous tactic, especially for political point scoring.

At least that's how it seems to me.

Countdown have announced:

COVID-19 update: All Countdown stores will open at 8am and close at 9pm nationwide

Just proves that people didn't learn from last time!

Now the Countdown customers will shop at New World first (In the case of my NW Supermarket) at 7.30, strip what they can, then go to their regular Countdown, just like last time!

Leaving regular loyal shoppers short changed again!

Why don't they both (Woolworths and Foodstuffs) do the same hours to help limit the public stupidity?

Edit: Speeelling Mistook! :-)

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else; a confirmed case not linked to the four possibles or managed isolation

ODT was republishing an NZ Herald story that has now been updated

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12356088

The case was one of the four from last night - the clinic spokesperson was incorrect

An important reminder: if you are leaving Auckland going back home you should self-isolate for 14 days.

Anyone else find it a slight glint of warm fuzzy reassurance we are seeing more and more stories about good mask use, how to DIY and stocks selling out stories over and above any foreign examples of resistance.

Maybe, just maybe. People have taken notice of how it goes wrong elsewhere while we had a good break to take it in and offered less bad covid related local news
