Journeyman:

@oblivian Sure, until I see someone wearing their mask wrong :)

Like tonight I saw one of the TV reporters only had it covering their mouth and not their nose. Not setting a good example IMO. Other reporters were able to conduct the interview wearing the mask in place properly. Although I do wonder why they all didn’t remove them while they talked.

Coronavirus found on frozen seafood in China. ( This is another find not one from months ago )
https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/coronavirus-found-on-frozen-seafood-in-china

""
The authorities in China have found coronavirus on the packaging of imported frozen seafood that arrived from the north-eastern port city of Dalian, which recently battled a surge of cases, a local government said on Tuesday (Aug 11).
""
When asked if any of the processed seafood had been exported, a member of staff at a coronavirus outbreak response unit in Yantai declined to elaborate, referring Reuters to the Yantai city government statement.
""

Of course the leap from some cold shivering virus particles to infection is probably quite a low probability.
Especially if you often do the number one virus protecting action, washing your hands regularly.
Give the packet a soapy wipe while you are at it.

Another human is much better source of fresh virile ready to go virus in continuous volume.
I guess we shall see in time seems odds are stacked against it.

Hey virus , seeing you are so lucky what's the power ball numbers ?

A friend of mine spent ten hours in a testing station queue, inside her car. Moved about one kilometre on that time. Turned around about seven at night... She called a station this morning and was informed it was fully booked, and will try her luck with another one.

Air New Zealand and Jetstar need to stop all flights in and out of Auckland; all we are going to do is spread cases from Auckland to the rest of the country and move into a L4 lockdown for all once again.

Continuing to allow flights seems to contradict the alert system

https://covid19.govt.nz/covid-19/restrictions/alert-level-3/

Travel is restricted to permitted movement in your local area, for example going to work or school, shopping, or getting exercise.

You should not travel to another region for recreation or work unless you're an essential worker travelling for work.

You should not take a flight to another region unless you're an essential worker, travelling to do essential work.

Public transport can continue to operate with strict health and safety requirements. You should maintain physical distancing and you should wear a face covering.

Edit; checked out Air NZ website

While Auckland remains at Alert Level 3, travel is restricted in and out of the region. Specifically, travel is permitted to and from Auckland for the purpose of returning to your usual residence, with no plan to leave, or as part of essential work.

So having planes flying into Auckland still makes sense; but maybe the people who check tickets at the boarding gate or earlier need to check on why people are leaving Auckland (though tricky)

Well that's a shambles.

Surely one person working for the DHB could estimate how long it would take to test people "per car", print off a notice, and walk down the queue handing out a note explaining the problem.

After the L4 lockdown there was almost no flu or cold "respiratory virus" in circulation.  I bet that's not the situation now - just based on the number of people I know who have had "colds".  So it doesn't surprise me that testing stations are overwhelmed.

I saw that this morning and said to the Memsahib “Good job we cancelled! They’re moving the virus to Queenstown. “

There are road blocks, but you can still fly? That makes no sense.

The article indicated that the people travelled prior to midday yesterday and the imposition of Level-3. So legally they have done nothing wrong. Morally? Not so sure.

I would suggest that it may be a bit more difficult to get a flight from AKL now.

I'm surprised that no triage seems to be happening with those in the queue.
Those that were interviewed by reporters don't seem to be exhibiting symptoms and only going for a check ?
Triaging would ensure that those with symptoms would be seen sooner rather than later. Or not at all.

I think an amendment to the rules is required.

Once lockdown is announced, say from midnight on x date, travel out of the specified area is only allowed to your usual address with immediate effect. Anyone who normally lives inside the specified area can travel only locally until midnight.

I'm a bit surprised public health officials were not expecting to need to resource massive testing upon any outbreak potential.
Cynical side has me looking at DHBs protecting their budgets , much like the repeated shortages on PPE and test kits getting to where needed.
Rest homes are concerned re low level of DHB support again, and doctors rationing swabs again.

While its expensive having a testing hit squad of size in waiting, like fire brigade when you need them you need them now.
As you are always an incubation  behind the virus every day you can grab back is precious.
Its horrible to see the times people are waiting.

Big ups to those that did wait out the queue and did their bit for the community , you are stars.

Looks like Cooks narrowly missed a potential disaster.

Covid expanded Test sites , total 15 in Auckland today.

Reanalyse:

Oldmanakbar: I would say it is much more likely they want to be absolutely sure of the information before telling the general public. I have no issue with the information they are giving.

It rather worries me that Brownlee and Collins are actually implying that "we are not being told all" for political reasons.

In a pandemic the deliberate attempt to lower trust in what we are told is a very dangerous tactic, especially for political point scoring.

This is always a potential consequence of not telling all. And I have no doubt that early in the covid-19 outbreak in February/March we weren't being told all. And it certainly looks that way now too... the sudden reintroduction of covid TV ads and pessimistic turn to AB's statements suggests that the Government had information which they haven't shared.

If the Government wants us to trust them, they have to tell the whole truth. And certainly not get caught doing anything else.

But I do take the point about needing to ensure that the information they do give is accurate, and that ensuring accuracy may delay the message.

Yes and then talking to media about it, loved it how they did not want to use their names when talking to the media.  You might have flee'd auckland for lockdown but they might have just put other places into lockdown because of this.

I really don't see why people have such a big issue with lockdown, you spend like 60% of your time at home already, you can still go outside (walks etc) you can still talk to friends and family (phones, text, video).
