It was nice to see in contrast the Samoan Church being responsible, hosting testing, distributing masks and helping their flock. Going online until we go down to a level where congregation can return.

You know the answer already. You keep bringing it up (changing of case definition per statistical results of ongoing tests, centres not adhering to those top level changes or being advised of. Chain of command errors, People errors, non dictatorship leadership, law roadblocks)

We are our own example that if a population actually makes an attempt to believe, get behind advise and true statistics you can starve transference.

In an ideal world if we had continued as we did, there would come a point no matter how much testing you do, even if you sat down and did the population 2x over - it wouldn't come with 'more cases' or the continued growth as exponential as under his own nose. It dies out. In the real world, You get cases, but less.

It's playing out like many of us said. Despite the golden target, If a call to arms was required. The public would react.

Infact, it's happening more than they expected and want. Now we have the exact people that had no reason or shouldn't be tested, interfering with the process and hindering to help find those who SHOULD be.

As things have played out today, it appears that the specified testing around the border staff and facilities wasn't in place on June 23rd, and was only in the process of being rolled out. At least they are being tested now, and luckily this outbreak looks like it is somewhat contained based on the cases so far. But it can take weeks to know for sure, and hopefully we don't get random cases popping up in other parts of NZ, even if linked to the cluster, otherwise we could have a very long tail in level 2 .

Covid 19 coronavirus: Ministry of Education to allow some Auckland Year 12 and 13s to return to school under level 3

A decision late this afternoon by the Government will give principals the option of allowing Year 12 and 13 students back to school early for face-to-face learning during alert level 3.

The Ministry of Education is working through the legal requirements tonight and will tomorrow be able to confirm the date students can return.

Auckland Grammar headmaster Tim O'Connor has been imploring authorities to allow flexibility, especially for students so close to crucial assessments.

On Friday he said 11 more full school days out of the classroom would be expensive, especially for students sitting Cambridge examinations. He didn't want 2020 to be a wasted year for students.

As a teacher at a high decile school this is just so dumb and will destroys the whole idea of a lockdown and gains so very little in educational benefit.

My Principal has already emailed students telling them we are going back Wednesday/Thursday.

Yes, I couldn't believe it when I read about this. The whole point of the lockdown is to starve the virus of new hosts, so people stay at home and physically distanced from others, which prevents the virus transmitting. Schools in particular are shown to be hotspots and clusters for this virus, despite what we were initially told by some experts, who said children were not as likely to catch it as adults.

Many businesses are sacrificing so much to remain closed. L3 and exceptions could potentially increase the tail of this new outbreak.

i don't know why it took months before a journalist asked this question.

Presumably none had bothered reading all the public documents online on the MoH website detailing our border strategy and testing processes that made it very clear testing everybody working at the border was not planned.

Or the old chestnut, about where God and Satan discuss the limits of human faith and endurance. God lets Satan provides thieves to steal Job's livestock, set his flock of sheep on fire, allows more thieves to steal his camels and then kill all children. For good measure God allows Satan to inflict Job with skin boils. Now that's entertainment! :(

Stephen Fry asked the same question about why God allows children to be inflected with bone cancer, and eye worms to blind.

Almost all of Victoria's second coronavirus wave can be traced to travellers quarantined at the Rydges on Swanston and Stamford Plaza, where face masks were not mandatory for guards or travellers in high-risk situations.

(It's actually worse than just no consistent face mask policy - they had big problems with maintaining adequate isolation etc).

I guess we find out today if the "Americold" Melbourne cases match the genome of the Auckland cases. I doubt it will, but the pessimist in me says that it'll come back close - but not conclusive - just to drive home how much 2020 sucks.

One of the frustrations of this second wave I had waited for the first to settle and was going to finally change ISP when bam second wave. This happened with the first now I will have to wait another month or two.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Why? If you have an intact connection whether it be xDSL or UFB a changeover is a same day back end process.

Nothing should surprise us anymore with this year at this point. I'm still bracing for the potential 'other' positives once the testing is made more available to asymptomatic people and focus is less on people who are actively crook.

Also, true believers know that an eternity of happiness in heaven awaits, so don't fear death.

There's also the Calvinist thing that God rewards the godly and punishes the wicked. So people who get covid (or any other disease) are wicked, and deserve it. (Perhaps that's why covid afflicts old people more than young... the young haven't had enough time to be really wicked). Some people who are only a bit wicked survive the experience, and hopefully go on to lead chaste lives. And the corollary: avoiding covid implies that you know you're actually wicked, and evading God's righteous punishment... the pure of heart have nothing to fear from it, and can demonstrate their purity by exposing themselves to it. This also applies to venomous snakes, BTW. And lightning, I think.
