I have severely degenerated discs. Not only do they have give you pain killers but also can give benzos as anto muscle spasms.

Now Im not into pot, but I know Indica Low ThC High CBD would really calm my back from spasms causing further damage. My doctor spoke to me about it and if it is available would I be willing to try it.

Labour has said the referendum will happen this year because they dont want to risk it close to next election.

I read October last year ACT in Aus is looking at complete legislation soon and the polls were something like 55% for and 27% against.

Whilst Im not a Pot smoker, I just cant see how its illegal but you can buy cigarettes and even wrose alcohol which kills so many people in one way or another every year. So outside my use, I dont see why we discriminate against those that smoke it recreationally.

They say its a gate way drug, rubbish. Sure some people will be lazy and just smoke it all day, but those people already exist. Giving people Opioids is beyond a gateway drug you are giving them drugs.

One note, it does stay in the system a long time, so work place testing would have to show concentrations indicating recent usage etc. Not a couple of puffs to calm someones anxiety the night before instead of popping 3 valiums which destroy the brain long term and are hard to come off without seizures.

Well come referendum time, I'm voting yes to at least the medical / medicinal portion if not decriminalisation or whatnot.  Sick of the profits going to the gangs when it should be taxed appropriately, even if just G.S.T like an apple.

I'd definitely be interested in trying it for migraine prevention, but I don't believe there's really sufficient studies that support it for that use which is a shame.

I'd like to get off the prescription preventatives I'm on, but I also don't want to get migraines either..

Anyway, I'll be voting yes.

I have 6 crushed vertebrae and lots of associated problems.  I'm voting yes to anything that keeps me off opiates since they are Satan's candy.

Actually it is a gateway drug - to the refrigerator.

On a more serious note, I support legalization of cannabis. Even though I don't smoke it and won't start, even if it becomes legal.

The Treasury has released a report saying that legalization will have a net positive financial benefit to NZ.

That's what I'd heard, that it was a placebo rather than a genuine pain reliever. Still there are worse things to legalise.

I know a few people with back issues young and old and smoking indica high CBD probably high THC strains and they all agree it works better than any existing pain medication. It massively reduced my grandads radiotherapy and cancer treatment side affects. I’m sure there are other people who have seen the positives and negatives that have posted their findings on the internet, my research’s finds they mostly are positive. Would rather the money go to the government than gangs as well. Will be voting for medical use and decriminalisation and recreation so there is no black market or dodger clinics and the gangs have less of a chance. Suppose they will just open up weed shops and use them to launder money.

There is a big difference between legalising and decriminalising that many joe public won’t understand, so I hope the referendum spells out the options properly. I am all for medicinal use and decriminalising, but not legalising. Referendums not until 2020 and then the laws all need to be changed, so best case scenario is 2021 IMO.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

If you think Cannabis is the holy grail of pain medication, then you are in la la la land....

It is recommended for my condition to help with severe chronic pain and muscle spasms.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

And if you doubt it's efficacy for certain purposes you're also in la la land. I'm not going to take morphine for constipation because that's not its purpose, there are things for which cannabis will and won't be deemed efficacious.

The mindless hysteria about cannabis has created a lot more victims than pot ever did. I will vote for the least stupid choice allowed, be that medical, decriminal, or recreational. People who just want to zone out on it should be able to. We already have far too many busybodies trying to tell others how to live.

I’ll admit I smoked every single day through my teens up until my mid 20’s then one day gave it up on a dime, never looked back. I’ll vote yes to medicinal because I believe it can help with pain relief.
What you do with it in your own time is none of my business.

When I was in hospital with a dissected aorta, they gave me the good stuff. No idea what it was, but I do recall a nurse asking how my pain was on a scale of 1-10 and replying that it was a 10 but I did not care!

Edit: as far as pot goes, I have no particular axe to grind - it seems no worse to me than alcohol, which is legal. Provided they can deal with drugged drivers etc the same way as they deal with drunk drivers, I can't see why you ought to be able to drink on the deck but not smoke cannabis.

I have not used it in years - decades, in fact - and never used it that much. However I always found being stoned much more pleasant than being drunk. I think the resin version of the drug is treated differently in NZ from the 'grass' version too, although the resin version was always far more common when I was a teenager in the UK than grass ever was.

Would I use it if it were legal? Probably as much as I use alcohol - and when I tell you that over Christmas I have not finished the single box of Budweiser I bought a week before Christmas, you'll see that would not be much!

Why not give people a clear understanding of both the potential positives and proven negatives of Cannabis use, the ability to quantify the effects - both overt and subtle – and allow them to choose for themselves?

I'm sure Legalisation of Cannabis in NZ - accompanied by a suite of public education and harm mitigation measures - could be a Good Thing with a nett overall benefit to society.
