I hope there is a security camera on these chargers, it seems like an easy thing to do in a new install, with power and network present.

The dunedin one was also taken out for a month late last year by a dickhead vandal.

But how easy would it be to retrofit them with cameras though?

Pretty easy, just put a 360 camera on top of the charger.  Just having a visible camera will likely stop most vandalism by itself.  May even stop ICEing if highly visible.

Cameras plus mobile network, plus data plus power, plus making sure that vandalism and / or weather doesn't just see them destroyed.

I like the idea of a motion-detecting "Ring" camera so you can speak to people....... :-)

Tologa Bay fast charger is now up and running.

It's 205km from Te Kaha, around the East Cape, so you'd need a larger battery (40kWh at least - 2018 LEAF.....though it may just be possible in a larger battery BMW i3 without a range extender if you drove very carefully)

Anyone driving a leaf would have to spend a few hours topping up in a campground on the way...and this time of year (summer - peak tourism season) it would be *essential* to book ahead....or stay overnight in motel somewhere over half way.

For any model of Tesla.....no worries.

If you just wan't to get there, the route via Opotiki / Matawai / Gisborne would be longer but very easy.

Remember if you charge at Matawai, just charge to 80% in a Leaf. It's downhill almost all the way to Gisborne or to Opotiki. No point overcharging when the hill will make lots of free power for you.

I'm told the ChargeNet DC  faster charger at the New World in Orewa (11 Moana Ave, Orewa 0931) is almost ready to go. They are waiting for Vector to connect the power.

The Twizel charger is in use right now....(16:48 Friday 9th) but the Wanaka one shows a fault.

I'll ask.

I'm told by Steve West (Mr ChargeNet) the Wanaka charger is dead. They are sending a new one down on Monday. As far as I know, this is the first one to fail completely just days after going live.

Thanks! Yeah it was me using the twizel one! I tried the wanaka one anyway and called to see if they could reset it but he told me the same when I called chargenet, I charged at the Lakeview camp ground on one of their 16 amp sockets and then last night at my hotel on an 8amp 3pin.

Looks like there’s a coupl of slow chargers in twizel belonging to a company and I could have possibly asked to use those if the fast charger was broken :)
